different tire pressure thread

Alright I have a set of 07 FJ Crusier tire and wheels sitting at my house (tires and wheels mounted and balanced, no sensors, shipped this way). I have been hesitant to install them since they don't have the 04 4Runner sensors in them.

So here is my question... Can I install the FJ Cruiser wheels with out sensors and pull the dash bulb? Will this have any effect on my 4Runner?

Then say a year from now, install the tire pressure sensors in the FJ Cruiser wheels (3rd party shop) and replace the light bulb. Will I have to go to Toyota and have them reset the entire pressure system?

Also how are these sensors powered? Say 10 years down the road, will they still be good? How about 15 or 20 yrs from now?

You can run the wheels without sensors in them. Members have posted the light come on until after 60 miles or so and will turn off when your 4Runner is parked next to the wheels that do have the sensors in them.

Pulling the light shouldn't create any problems, just that you won't see the light when it's suppose to be on and you're saving wear and tear on that light. The sensors have a battery in them, it's suppose to last either 5 or 10 yrs. There was a PDF posted in the forum somewhere about the longevity of the sensors. IMO, I rather not have the sensors--unneccessary added cost for responsible drivers/owners.

yes, but there is no bulb, rather an led soldered to a circuit board. I wish we could locate the wire feeding the tpms light and install a switch to turn it off.

The system will always recognize the original sensors. Reprogramming is only needed if a sensor is replaced.

As uneek pointed out, the sensor battery life was initially rumored to be 5 years, but has been extended to 10. After that, who knows? We are all going into unknown territory. Hopefully new sensors will be cheaper or re-chargeable.

I love it when a lobby gets a law passed that has no real impact on safety.
