Differential fitment question

Hi, will a rear differential third member from a 1987 toyota truck fit a 1991 Toyota truck?

There is no ABS and the 87 has a 4.10 ratio same as the 91, the 91 has a V6 the 87 is unknown engine size.

Yes, that will bolt up. Different year thirds from different engines have slightly different shapes, but they're all for the 8 inch axle and are swappable between first and second gen. Third gen too, maybe, but I don't know that for sure.

Agreed with the above! 1st and 2nd gens have pretty much the same diff. Why would you want to swap it if it's the same? Did ya blow up the stock diff?

As for 3rd gen diffs, they will fit in 1st or 2nd gen housings with a little modification for the e-locker. I'm not sure about a non locker diff but who cares. It would be useless to put a 3rd gen diff in our runners unless it has a locker.

Yes, a friend broke his rear and I'm looking for a replacement for the truck. We just need a stock open rear with a 4.10 ratio.

The 87 would have a 4 cyl, the 6 cyl wasn't available then.
The 4 cyl diff will fit, it's just not quite as strong as the 6 cyl diff.
