differential question

Hello, I have a question , I have wheels 33 and my car is too slow l, that differential should put? I have understood that I'm the original, my engine is diesel 1kzt Thanks

I know nothing about the diesel engine in your truck or what gears it came with stock. First step would be to figure out what gearing is in it right now by rotating the tire and counting the driveshaft rotations. Basically jack up one of the rear wheels, rotate it 20 times and count the number of times the driveshaft rotates. If it turns 43 times you have 4.30 gears, if it rotates 41 times you have 4.10 gears. That will get you your stock gears in your differential.

A lot of people regear to 4.88's here when running 33's.

It depends on what RPM range you want the engine to be in at a given speed.

Your diesel probably has a lower power band than a gasoline engine, so the RPM's don't need to be as high. I would think that 4.30s or 4.56 would be a good choice as far as getting it rolling from a dead stop, but not knowing if you drive at higher speeds does make a difference which is better.

Jack up only one rear tire and leave the other on the ground. Now put a jackstand under the lifted side. Turn the tire two full rotations and again count the number of turns of the driveshaft.

- Count the turns on the drive shaft.

If it takes about 2 and three-quarters turns, it's around a 2.73 gear ratio. If it's a little more than 3, you have 3.10s. If it takes about 3 and a half turns of the driveshaft, you have 3.54 gears. Very close to 3 and three-quarter turns, 3.70 or 3.73 gears. and so on

No, not if your goal is to get back to stock performance. Use this calculator - www.grimmjeeper.com/gear.html - plug in your stock transmission/diff ratio/tire size, and note your RPM at a given speed. Now change up to the new tire size, and play with diff ratios until you get near the original RPM at the speed you chose.

Assuming you're starting with 4.10 (like Singtoe said, you should verify that), it'll probably be a 4.56 ring and pinion that'll get you closest to stock behavior. But first determine for sure what diff ratio you have now, and then run the numbers and see where you end up.

turbo diesel 80 series came with 3.73s, and they have less power than the gas versions over here that came with 4.10s.

use this calculator, plug in the stock tire size, and then manipulate the variables to figure out how to keep the same rpm for the same speed.

you probably want 4.56s if you have 4.10s and used to have stock 265s.

rpm is pretty critical for a diesel.
