Dimmer Control Wire on 4th Gen??

What wire do I connect my dimmer wire from my head unit to in my 03' JBL T4R? Or do I need to run a wire to the dimmer controls switch?

That should do it. All it does is switch the gps image to night mode when you turn on the headlights.:shrug:

The GPS goes to night mode based on the time of day and day light savings time. Its updated via satellite. I am under the impression, no idea if this is true, that with the dimmer wire connected I will be able to control the brightness of the display and the illumination of the buttons with the factory switch.

If not I guess there is no point in connecting it. Kenwood folks chime in??

I just installed a DNX-6160. I don't remember which wire the dimmer wire is (Crutchfield made that part pretty simple with their harness), but I can tell you how it is working on mine. There is an option in the Kenwood setup screens that allows me to choose to either dim when my lights are turned on (via the dimmer wire I assume) or to dim based on the GPS switching to night mode. The amount of dimming is also selectable via that setup screen but the truck's dimmer (the wheel on the left side of the dash) has no effect on the brightness of the stereo. That would make too much sense. Even at the most 'dim' setting on the stereo, it is still WAY too bright at night.

This is exactly how my new Kenwood works. Glad to know I didn't get a defective one. I would love it if the dimmer wheel on the dash affected the display, as I like to keep my interior lights relatively low. Agreed it's pretty damn bright at night.
