Diode Dynamics SS3 LED Fog Light

So the Pro in white was way too bright. Here in NY, there is some talk about cracking down on excessive lights, so I am going to take opportunity to switch to amber lights. I will repurpose the white lights as ditch lights and retrofit them with the square bezels.

But I wanted to get some feedback from the group about amber lights - sport vs pro? My use is primarily using on the roads in Catskills, NY area. Higher elevation with fog throughout the year. Deer and other animal running across the road is a constant hazard here.

I have the fog amber sports. I also have the Pro SS3 ditch which i'll use for a pseudo comparison. The sport fogs provide solid coverage both forward and past the 90 degree angle. I live out in the country with a lot of deer and other animals that love to run around on the roads and can confidently say that the sport model provides a lot of clarity for this specific purpose.

The Pro SS3 ditch in amber are powerful.. sometimes too powerful. I have toyed with the idea of upgrading to pro for the fogs until I put on my ditch lights. I think for me.. the pro fogs would be too bright and almost reduce some visibility if there are trees/bushes or other objects that may reflect the light. The sport is bright enough yet not too bright. If that makes sense. And as said above, the sports aren't causing issue for oncoming drivers. And I run the fogs whenever my low beams are on. They just look so damn cool.

I have a set of amber fogs sitting on the table waiting to get installed. I just need to wait 5-7 more weeks to get my arm out of a sling and range of motion to install them. The sale is really good.

I still have the SAE fog PRO's in yellow from my 4Runner, they don't fit in my new vehicle sadly, so they are available if anyone is looking, they were in my 4Runner for about 6 months, like new condition.

I loved them when I was using them, amazing output, lights the ditches up like daytime, which was great for watching for wildlife while in rural areas.

I’m looking. How much you want for them?

Thanks for the feedback folks. Opted for the amber sport. It sounds like that is plenty good enough due to its excellent engineering and design. As someone mentioned here. I too found the white Pro too bright as some of the light scattered back, even with it aiming downward.

Nice choice. My wife summarized them best as I followed her sports-car on a short road trip:

“Distinctive, bright as hell but not annoying.”

I installed the DD SS3 Pro fog lights in amber on my 5th gen. Install was easy - other than the stupid shroud over the light on the passenger side. Aiming them was a pain, though. Only because it was awkward getting my hands and the hex key up there to tighten everything down once I had them aimed properly.

Diode Dynamics seems to be the best bang for the buck right now.

I got the DD SS3 Pro fogs in white for Christmas. The install was super easy and I LOVE the output. I always drive with them on and I have never been flashed once! These things are awesome!!

I just got my set with the amber backlight. Anybody wired them up yet? I'm thinking I'll use the side marker to power them, I'm assuming it should have enough current? I don't see anything listed for the power requirement for the backlight, I just want them on with the parking lights.

Anyone have info on the backlight tap wire location? Wanted mine on with the side marker lights. 2021 LED low/Halogen high system. I know the DRL on these won’t power the back light. Anyone figure this out?
