Dip Stick

Hi, I've seen this issue with the dip sticks come up in the 4th gen and in a 5 gen thread but was looking for additional information.

First off.... I've owned a Jeep for over 20 years (did all the work on it) and I was a little hesitant with an oil change on a t4r but with the help from HARPER7 pdf factory tech manual on lubricants, 1000MPH for the detailed pics on an oil change and APENSO on the idea of using Rhino Ramps the oil change was a breeze.
Except for one thing....The Dip Stick.:crybaby:
I put 6 quarts in, started the engine, shut off the engine, checked the dip stick and got a middle reading. Put in .5 quarts (reading on a few threads that the engine takes 6.5 quarts) and now I keep getting different readings on the dip stick. First, one side of the dip stick shows a mark just before the full....Flip over the dip stick and the mark is way past the mark.

I don't mind being a little under the full mark but being over could potentially be damaging to an engine.

Question is: Should I be worried about my readings? Is there a trick to getting a good reading from these dip sticks?

Luckily the Toyota specs are accurate.
Did I mention when I got my factory service they were a qt low? I could tell there was oil on the dipstick but couldn't accurately read it until I let it sit overnight.
Let it sit overnight or for at least a few hours and don't wipe it first.

I was just reading about overfills on the BITOG website because it looked like the dealer overfilled when I went back. Most folks on BITOG don't seem as concerned about slight overfills as I expected. Mine turned out to be only about 1-2mm over on the dipstick and I'm not worried.

Edit: one thing the manual says that I found important is the difference between the min and max on the dipstick is not 1 quart.

An "old timer" taught me this years ago. Obviously make sure your vehicle is parked level. Pull out dipstick, wipe clean, put dipstick back in, count to 10 (one-thousand one, one-thousand two, etc) remove dipstick and check. If you do this everytime you check your oil, you will get a true reading. (being consistant) It works for me on all my engines.

Does anyone else have trouble reading this dipstick? I changed my oil on our 2012 SR5 for the first time today. I put 6.5 quarts in and I am having a terrible time reading the stick. It appears to have some spots where there is no oil at all, almost like there is water mixed with the Mobil 1 0W20. Also there is oil further up the dipstick on one side. I let it sit for four hours with the same results. Can anyone explain

Capacities
Drain and Refill w/o Oil Filter Change 5.7 liters (6.0 US quarts)
Drain and Refill w/ Oil Fitler Change 6.2 liters (6.6 US quarts)
Dry Fill 7.1 liters (7.5 US quarts)

You should be right there with 6.5 quarts. The synthetic is hard to read on the thin stick. Someone posted before that the Mobile1 was either harder or easier to read. I think harder based on your posts. I can't remember, but it is in one of the some odd hundred oil change threads.
