Direction on How-to Replace Front Driver Seat Belt Assembly

Short story, my dog has chewed up the shoulder belt on the driver's front seat.

Need to pull off the panels , and I assume just un-bolt the assembly and pull of a few connector wires. This is probably the easy part.

Can anyone post the direction for this ? Including removing the plastic panels on the b pillar?

Did not get any responses- so I figured out how to remove the B-Pillar plastic trim covers. They simply "snap" off .

This reveals the seat belt assembly mechanism which includes the seat belt. Looks to be a simple unbolt and swap out straight up replacement .

Anyone have first hand experience, and advice? Since the mechanism has an explosive charge , I will unhook the battery posts and let sit about 30 minutes before performing the replacement.

Other that the ridiculous cost from the sole source dealer is between $275 and $325 for the part , I don't see any other costs or elaborate installation procedure. Chalk one up for my dog! Good thing for him, he's my daily 5-7 mile running buddy.

I haven't gotten the new part yet - first I wanted to get my hands and my eyes on the scope of work actually involved to make sure I could handle.

BTW- For the front driver's seat belt ; the part should be for "LEFT FRONT" , correct ? Confusing LEFT/RIGHT as depends on which way you are looking.

Are you sure about the explosive charge part? Most seatbelts have an inertia reel that locks up with a quick pull and then releases when tension is removed.

You will probably need a special socket or insert to remove the bolts - however, it may be just a large torx.

Yup, the front seatbelt assemblies are equipped with an explosive charge on the 5th Gen 4 Runners. Of course, my dog had to chew up the most expensive one, LOL. Problem with with the explosive charges, the unit cannot be shipped so I may be stuck paying at the local dealer. I will look at Camelback Toyota, but from what I can tell they cannot ship or would be in violation of Federal laws. At least , the replacement labor wise looks easy whether I do it myself or pay a shop.

OK, Update.....

Was able to find a local Toyota dealership with internet pricing ( and local pick up) and purchased the Seat Bet Assembly part for $187 ( compared to $276 at the dealership full retail).

FYI

The Front Driver Seat seat belt assembly is characterized by Toyota as FRONT LEFT

Here is the part number for a 2015 4Runner ( with black seat belts):

#73220-35840-CO Belt Assemble Front/Left



I may install myself as it looks very straightforward.

But also FYI :

Local Dealership charges $465 ( part /labor and tax) - ouch, right?

Local Independent shop will charge $105 for Labor ( I provide the part)

IF YOU DO THIS JOB YOURSELF , NOTE THERE IS AN EXPLOSIVE CHARGE AND YOU SHOULD DISCONNECT THE BATTERY CABLE AT THE POST PRIOR TO BEGINNING THE JOB AND I WOULD WAIT 30 MINUTES AS PRECAUTION TO DE-ENERGIZE THE SYSTEM.
