Dirt, Mud. Rocks in my airbox

Every time i go off road i end up with debris in my air box. Popped my airbox to clean my air filter earlier today and had several small chunks of gravel in the bottom on the box with some caked mud in the corners. I followed the air intake line and it goes under the front fender right above the wheel. Apparently my truck is missing the gut linings of the wheel well or my air intake line is missing a scope or filter on the end? Is there a fix for this or somewhere that sells the inner wheel well coverings? I`ve looked at snorkles to fix the problem but im not keen on paying 400$ for a 4 foot long molded plastic pipe.

Will it hurt anything to just remove the intake hose from the airbox that leads to the outside wheel well?

you could probably make your own wheel wel plastic crap or whatever u want to call it...for pretty cheap.. can someone help me out that is more knowledgable then me??

Not sure what kind of material i would use. Been asking on craigslist and looked in a junk yard yesterday for liners to no avail. I`m thinking i might just clamp a screen on front on the intake. I clean my truck regularly on a OCD basis so the screen getting clogged up with mud shouldn't be to much of a prob. The guy that i bought my truck from removed all the wheel liners and did some serious hacking on the fenders for tire clearance i guess. Wish i had the original flares and stuff. Every time i hit a puddle my truck needs another wash.

you can get the liners on rock auto for like $13...

As for the intake, I've noticed some muddy water in mine a few times, never rocks though. I think the screen is a good idea, it will keep the chunky stuff out. You may also be able to mod some type of pre filter around the intake elbow.

i wonder why he would hack that much to put 33's on...... it is unecassary unless he ran bigger and then went smaller when he sold it..

Looks like it to me, like you said, its hard to tell from the picture. but for $10 i'd say its worth trying out.
