Unfortunately I don't think you can disable this function entirely. I think your only choices are to have it lock all doors when you shift out of park (the default) *or* above a certain (low) speed. The instructions are in the operator's manual. Some programmable functions are described only in the repair manuals, and some of those also require Toyota's hand-held tester, but completely disabling the auto door lock feature wasn't mentioned anywhere that I found.
Perhaps the 04 or 05 models are different, but I suspect not.

Satman, I still don't see how you can turn this feature off. I reread that thread and the referenced PDF document and the website linked there. It still looks like you can *change* the conditions for auto-locking (and unlocking), but you can't stop it from happening. IIRC, I checked the Toyota repair manuals and it wasn't possible to defeat the locking entirely, even with the Toyota hand-held tester.
Am I missing something? I'd like to defeat this feature, too.

Hey thanks Satman! I must have read that wrong (or the 2003s are different--I hope not) and interpreted it to mean that if you toggled one auto-lock mode off, another would toggle on. I'll try this the first chance I get.
My recently purchases used 07 4Runner has a similar issue. The doors lock themselves after about 15 seconds when I unlock with the fob. I want his feature disabled. IMHO it is just asking for the keys to locked inside. Also countless times I have walked outside to get something out of my car to find it locked itself again. This is in "industrial strength stupid" feature I have no use for. How do I disable it?

Yes, it is 15 posts. Kinda sucks when you are new but it really cut down on spam posts. I found this forum looking for information on a problem and could not ask a question until 15 posts.

Can't count how many times I have tried to get in my car with an arm load of stuff only to find myself locked out. :dammit:
How do is make it stop doing that.

The radio wave / signal strength computer/ multiple antennas-in-the-car is pretty good stuff these days.
My 2 yr old Acura even stops you from locking the keys in the trunk.

I found with mine that if you follow the directions to toggle the mode you currently have and don't set a new mode, you will have no auto-locking features.
