Disable drl on 1996 4runner

Hey guys,

I ordered a HID Kit from ddm and it should arrive soon. I know I need to disable my drl for the hid but I don't have a module anywhere.

I checked to the right of the battery and there is no module.

I also checked under near the steering wheel and I don't have a module like most people do.

Anyone have an idea where it could be located?

1996 4runners did not have daytime running lights. and if you have them its an after market thing and so the module or power source could be anywhere...
 
Crap yeah I bought the runner used and I don't think it's a Canadian model. But what will happen if I can't disable my drl? Will the hid have to be on all the time?
 
That's a good idea. I wonder if I can somehow trace the wire... I guess a shop is the best idea though.

The HID's should be here soon so I guess it's not terrible if they have to be on all the time... at least for now.

I didn't have to mess with any wire under the dash on my 97, just unplugged the module from behind the battery. When I did disable the DRL on my brothers 2002, yes the black wire w/ yellow markers did the trick.
 
But what thekid is saying is that mine didn't come with drl's and they must be aftermarket. I don't know where my module is because I don't have one near my battery or under the dash. Unless I have the wire but no module?
 
Do you have any contact with the Knucklehead(previous owner)? If you do you can ask him where he had the drl's installed. Second question would be why the hell did he do this mod, maybe he lives in an old folks community?

If it's an aftermarket DRL module, just check for any additional wiring tapped into either the low or high beam headlight wiring, naturally the connections will be made towards the headlight closer to the battery.
 
yes they should be closer to the headlights, but if someone did this mod then who knows where they tapped in the power to and from... i did this mod(its rainy and crappy weather 9months outta the year where i live) with a set of driving lights, and i tapped the power for them in under the dash at the ignition just after the key, from there it goes to a relay and to the lights so that the moment i turn the key to the "on" position they are on. yes i know mine are not going to the headlights like the OPs, but im trying to make the point that the wiring and power source could be anywhere, and if you dont know what your looking for(what, how or where they did this mod) you could spend days, fallowing wire diagrams...

In my defense, what other devices aside from say fog/driving lights would you use to tap into the headlight wiring system if not DRL module.. Irregardless of the power source, be it the ACC under the dash or battery, you still end up using the headlights. If the OP don't have lighting system, then it only means one thing..

If there's no visible signs of wire taps or solders close to the headlights, then I have no clue. :peace:

Sorry man...I'm simply stating that fog and driving lights also uses either low/high beams for source,,,besides the DRL. All the OP has to look for is the extra connections/taps to the headlight wires if present.
 
yeah but i think he just has his headlights as the DRLs, i have custom wired mine so that the driving lights are the DRLs, and they are not tied into the headlights at all (meaning the headlights dont need to be on for them to work, nor does it matter if im using my high or low beams, they are always on unless the truck is turned off). someone could of tapped into the power anywhere from the transmission gear selector to they key to the fuse panel under the hood for a source of power. and trying to track that location down is like finding "the black pen" at office depot... unless you know exactly where and what to look for you will spend hours and lost of guessing to find it
 
Yeah it's actually the corner lights that are always on (drl), even when my other lights are in the off position.

Those would be considered daytime running lights right?

I can check to see if I see any obvious extra wires or something. Also if posting pictures could help let me know and I can post some.
