disappointed with trd...runner needs more HP!!!

TRD has no plans to make a supercharger available for the 05 V8's...

As a horsepower hungry person...I NEED MORE HP!!! haha

I LOVED my 96 with the trd sc...I was drooling over having an AWD 4runner with a v8 and a sc....now that wont happen

Plus, the Cherokee will be available with the hemi with a LOT more power than the 4Runner..and you can still sc the hemi on top of that!

Shame on you TRD...toyota...give my 4Runner some BALLS!!!

This has been a test of the random bitching system...if this would have been an actual emergency, I would have bought another Supra

Maybe I'll get my hood scoop removed for less wind resistance it might help me see over it *LOL*

May not have a SC but at least it is not a dumper like the dodge dingo. The new V8 still has more HP than an older SC 4-runner.

I agree, but I still have to have more more more! That was one of the things I loved about my 96...how it would surprise your average 'kid in a honda' and embarass them in front of their girl or something. I even enjoyed the 'whine' of the sc because I was so used to the 'whine' of my turbo supra. My 96 SC ran 9.7sec in the 1/8th mile..thats NOT too shabby for a SUV...1/4 was still slow(15.7), but i mean c'mon..it is a brick *haha*....

but the thought of a v8..that started out with 270hp with a sc...mmmm....350-400 hp...awd traction....I knew it was too good to be true

How much power is enough?

I know, I know, there is never enough.....

but remember that you need more an more power to get decreasing increments in performance. The point of dimishing returns becomes less and less cost effective.

The new 270 engine is nice, but I am perfectly happy with the 235 hp plant. I cruise effortlessly at 75-85 without batting an eyelash. I can pass trucks without any fuss. Went up and down highways at lung searing altitudes to 8,000 feet last week. Nothing so much as fuss up my hair. Smooth, quiet, silky V-8, like a good Cohiba or Romeo y Julieta.

I might get 1/2 second off my 1/4 or 0-60 if I rally cared about it....of course burning up and frying tires and torque converters is not my choice to spend my hard earned cash on.....But then I could not care less about some snot nosed kid in his lowered Honda and "Mugen Power" sticker and trash can size tail pipe either blasting Enema, I mean Eminem. Something about being old enough not to care about crap like that.

Well, to each his own.

just like I can't settle for just any old computer that is capable of gettnig email and surfing the web...I want fast processors, fast access HUGE GB drives (I think i'm around 900gig in hard drive space now), image/video/dvd editing and burning capability, multiple monitors, new gadgets...

same goes for me with my automobiles...I just cant leave it stock *hehe* no matter what I drive so its custom turbo/sc time for me...

its just an area of interest for me...an expensive hobby....it has nothing to do with 'being old enough not to care about crap like that'

I never raced a 'kid in a honda' on the street in my Supra...I surely had nothing to prove and my brother has already had a few trips to the jail because of street racing *hehe* but everyone tried to race me...even people in old station wagons...

But in my 96 4runner it was funny just to see the look on their face...just like the 350z that just sat at the red light spinning as i took off and left his azz...he would have passed me around 60mph or so...but from light to light, I'd leave him sittin still every time (they arent that fast anyway)....the kids standing in front of Brewsters ice cream thought it was funny dude probably drove straight to the nissan place wanting to know how a 4runner left his 'sports car' so easily *haha*

I guess it does boil down to each his own. I am perfectly satisfied with my 235 hp + Borla + aFe intake. I absolutely fly by slower cars when I need to pass. I never will race a rice rocket, it is not worth the added stress it places on the rigs drivetrain. I could probably beat them, but who cares?

You could not use more than 270hp in a 4WD situation, so why have it. I would rather have torque anyway.

Because I happen to like to race (on the track that is) and compare to other vehicles. Nothing against people that dont like a lot of hp and dont like to race.

Plus I wasnt talking about in 4WD offroad situations...I was referring to AWD situations since my 05 sport is full time awd

I was just bitching about TRD not offering the SC as they did with the 03/04. The fact that a SC was available for the 03/04 was SOME of the reason I wanted a 4th gen 4Runner. I agree that not everyone needs/wants more power...I'm just sayin I'm one of the ones that do *hehe*

Again, I have nothing against people that dont want more power. Personally I dont go offroading so why do I need the 4wd anyway? or for that matter why do I even need a 4runner?? *hehe* cuz its there and I wanted it! Personal preference

I believe Christo Slee at Slee Offroad put in a turbo system in his V8 LC. It was made for plenty of TQ so it should pull pretty well of the line. Maybe give them a call and see if they can do something for the 4Runner. Always good to know your options. If you want serious HP turbo is probably the way to go and a custom setup.

I think the TRD S/C is OK, but I dont like the fact that it doesn't provide you with the opportunity to add an intercooler. SOme people added 7th injectors and water injectors to cool down the intake temp and that worked out OK.

Also getting headers fitted in the 4Runner will be a PITA but most probably worth it as the stock headers just suck. You can also get a Unichip and have it tuned to your configuration, will be $$$$, but will add some HP.

Me I will just tag alog with the stock ol' V8, my 4Runner will never be fast but it gets the job done.

Starting with a 4500+lb vechile is not the way for fast 1/4 miles IMHO. Getting a few ponies on AWD in a SUV and beating a few unsuspecting drivers sounds like fun. I normally wait for the roads to be wet, so I can easily get the gap from a traffic light. A guy in a Corvette was not amused when he got left behind as I too his lane. WHeelspin on a wet road sucks Street racing is a big no-no as you said, but getting ahead in traffic is fun.

Well I'm not really looking for fast 1/4 times in general...I'm looking for fast 1/4 times for a SUV *hehe*...I wanna be able to represent the 4Runner against the hemi cherokee and maybe even the porsche suv I would have done the TRD sc just because it was a simple bolt on mod. But if I am going to do it custom...a turbo is more efficient.

I agree 100% about the wet weather *LOL* I'd have that same problem in my Supra....rear wheel drive + rain = not a good time

I am loving this full time awd...wet weather doesnt bother me a bit (I use to use 4wd hi in my 96)

I find it a bit irritating when I'm manually pullin around 3,000 rpms (nearly full torqe) in anticipation of needing to make a quick move, and the tranny insists on delaying my effort by almost a full second by downshifting when I give it some pedal.
