I know this is a stupid question, but is it possible to disconnect fuel injectors from two or three of my 3.4's cylinders, to improve fuel economy, while keeping the engine reasonably balanced?
disconnect injectors for better MPGs?

Lots of things will happen and none of it's good. First it would cause a mifire which will turn on the check engine light. Also the unplugged cylinders will now pump unburnt oxygen into the exhaust. The oxygen sensors will see this, and increase the injection duration to bring the air fuel ratio back to where it should be. So now you have unburnt fuel from the working cylinders being too rich combined with the oxygen from the non working cylinders going into the cats. That will cause them in turn to overheat and start to meltdown inside. In others words it's a good way to mess up your truck.

you would have to disconnect alot more than just a fuel injector to make the it see any benefits. and even if you did get in to run on 3 or 4 cylinders and not be screwing anything up, you probably wouldn't gain only a little bit if anything at all because you will be using more fuel in the remaining cylinders to try to cope with the lost power and you will still be powering the pistons and the valvetrain in the disconnected cylinders and not be receiving any power from them

Well, there was the guy on the tractor board I post on that wanted to use a tiny Mazda pickup to haul a trailer with a 7000 lb. Farmall M tractor on it. That went seven pages of people trying to save him from death before it turned out it was a troll scam from another board. Hmmmm.....

Heck. I had some kid come up to me at a race event and ask if removing the springs entirely would drop the car the most. Thinking for a second, I said, "yes, removing springs would cause the car to lowered the maximum amount." He said cool and left. I would have liked to see it when the car fell down on its suspension components and broke something.

Atually it is a legitemet question based on the thought of Variable Dispacement Engines Chrysler, Honda and several other manufactureers use these in some of their vehicles. What they do is have the computer turn off cyl. at cruising speed. So say once you are on the FWY and set cruise control the engine cuts out as much as half the cyl.s to conserve fuel. However it is a lot more complicated then just cutting the fuel injectors. As mentioned earlier just cutting the fuel will turn those cyl. into an Air pump which can be bad so now you have to purge the air some how.
USS- I dont believe it is a stupid question, however without the engine and all the computer functions being designed to work that way it would be impossible to turn our engine into a Varaible Displacement Engine.
