disconnecting fan clutch

Howdy all,

I am trying to disconnect my fan clutch. I used a 12 pt ring spanner and the nut shredded. Before I shred another does anyone have any ideas to make this easier. These aren't reversed thread are they? Thanks!

Thanks anyway - the bolts come off normally, it just takes a 12 pt ring spanner held against the nut and some force.
