Discrepancy in gear oil amounts

I changed the oil the front & rear diffs and transfer case, filling them up until fluid started coming out the fill hole. According to the manual, the front diff and trans take 1.5 qrts each and the rear 3.2 qrts equaling 6.2 total. I bought 7 and have about a third of a quart extra OVER the .8 I should have left over.

Anyone else have this happen to them?

Not all the oil came out when you were draining, you did it properly. All set

Take it for a short drive then top them both off. There are a lot of little nooks and crannies in there that hold air bubbles. You'll be surprised how much additional fluid you can fit into both differentials after a short drive and cool down cycle.

I did the trans and rear a couple days ago and the front today (had to have left boots changed and didn't want to waste new fluid).
I checked the rear today, thinking it would be low since the fluid goes into the axle tubes a bit, but as soon as I took out the plug it started to overflow. I put a few squirts in and put the plug back in so I know its right. Maybe I'll check the trans tomorrow, but the way it overflowed I can guarantee its right, too, as did the front diff. Pumping the oil in was a slow process, so I know it had time to flow and level out.

Correct fill should be just below the fill hole.
