distinguished road?

I google searched for the topic, but I only got one kinda relevant hit that turned out to just be a couple members musing, but not really coming up with any answers.

the little green square that appears below the post count and avitar and what not, when moused over a test box pops up that says so-and-so "is on a distinguished road". what is that? doesn't appear to be related to rep power, or post count or anything. what is it?

Indeed, but why? What does it all mean?
