Diving to passenger front and pulling to driver rear on accel and decel.......

hey guys, 01 SAS Dana 44 4runner. I have been getting this weird diving and pulling while driving recently.

It only happens when I am rolling, clearly above 40mph. I cant get it to pull or dive while pulling away from a light or smashing the brakes going slow. What will happen is: Whil driving on the highway if I get on the brakes, the immediate reaction of the truck is to sort of dive to the passenger side as if someone was turning the wheel really snappy. Then the opposite happens when I get back on the gas. Its like the truck wants to pull back toward the driver then evens out.

I am assuming its something steering. Rod ends? Toe? sticky brake caliper?

My toe seems tiny bit off and my rod ends look fine. Cant see any caliper dragging.

Just curious if anyone has had this happen before and what their solution was.
Thanks guys.

If you're pulling to the right, it could be because your driver side rear drum brake isn't grabbing that we'll. It's possible your shoes are contaminated with gear oil because your inner axle seal failed on that side. Look for the telltale spray of gear oil in the inner part of the left rear tire. If you don't see anything, jack it up, remove the wheel and pull the drum to take a closer look.

I recently did my 3rd member. I could have gotten gear oil on my brake shoes and or torn a seal. I will pull off the drum and inspect today. Could be as easy and pulling the drum and brake cleaning everything down super well. Thanks!

I would double check all of your links in the rear too. I had the same issue where mine was pulling opposite directions when braking or accelerating. I checked the rear and one of my lca bolts sheared off cause the 3rd to rotate slightly.

Do you have sway bars connected? I think the natural tendency is for the trust to twist to the passenger side under load. Also, I'd check your front brakes, I had a pull to the left on braking, then a pull to the right after the right caliber seized up in closed position.

This. Check your upper and lower rear control arms for worn bushings or loose/missing bolts. I had the same issue, tightened up a loose bolt; problem solved.

Huh? When I lost my LCA due to frame rot, the truck became wildly unstable on acceleration. Essentially undriveable. Was yours still partially attached somehow?

When I got out of the car to check, the arm was just hanging down. It shouldn't have been drivable at all, but it made it quite a ways before I could actually feel that something was wrong.

Hmmmm....driver's side or passenger's? It might make a difference due to shaft rotation. Mine was driver's side.

Well, I went to tighten one of my sway bar points where it mounts to the axle and snapped the bolt off. So that being loose could be a part of it. I'm not seeing any leakage in my rear seal but I did notice what sounds to me like a brake pad dragging after letting it sit overnight and driving it out of the neighborhood.

It's like a screeching/whirling with the rpm that goes away after a few blocks

When you finish a drive, touch the center of each wheel (carefully) and see if one is hotter than the others. A dragging brake can get hot enough to burn your hand.
