I have an older version of it that I have actually used a lot, even "professionally" when I had my shop we used it for a lot of brackets, wheels, valve covers etc. I just set it back up again to do some small stuff and its kicking out extra powder now and then, but that could be the fault of my regulator or the fact that I didn't clean it before I put it away years ago, and still didn't clean it before i tried it out recently lol.
Not sure how much you have looked into powder coating but you do need an oven used only for powder coating to do it. When I had my shop I grabbed a home oven from a buddy that was remodeling his house at the time. Since space is a bit more cramped in my current place I've been reduced to a toast r oven, but still awesome for brackets.

I saw a guy build an oven out of an old fridge. installed a thermostat and a heating element. worked great for powdercoating wheels and the like.
I bought one of those a few years ago and ended up taking it apart to try and get more power out of it. It worked so so but lacked power and the top load guns seem to have a tendency to dump powder when tipped down.
The best gun I own is this Eastwood bottom feed.

I wish I had room for a decent sized oven still.
The other thing that probably should be mentioned is prep. If you don't own a sand blaster, I probably wouldn't waste the money on the powder coat system. If you want to do anything that's been in contact with oil you may want to blast it, heat it, blast it again before the powder get applied. I've had white turn to bronze before when that baked in oil pulls out in the oven.

Powder Coating for the enthusiast
Timely post, been reading up on this last couple of weeks.
Eastwood makes a pretty good (review wise) set up for under $200 with 4 powders included.
Any oven will work (but remember once you use it for powder coating, no more food), you can find cheap electric ovens on craigslist(even w/o a cooktop). The only other item you need is a bead/sand blaster (assuming you already have a compressor). As others have stated prepping is 90% of the process to yield good results.
I'm in the process of trying to reconfigure my garage to fit a small bead blasting set up and an oven (already have a 220 outlet).:eyebrows: Selling it to the SO as a way to save money.:eyebrows:
