I need to plan and budget for replacing the shocks on my 1988 4runner (3.0 V6). This is my daily driver, with mostly highway miles. My priority is on getting the best riding shock, that can easily handle minor off-road use

Rancho 5000 are decent reasonably priced shocks. KYB shocks are ok too. Spray nuts with PB Blaster over the week before you plan to remove will aid removeable.

Thanks Wolfgang!

Would that include Rancho 5115s? There's a local seller on craigslist with a brand new set (2) for $65, and they were for a 4runner (don't know the year).

The Rancho gas shock series is called 5000 --- assume the 5115 is a specific application withing that model series. They run about $40 each.
