DizzyDoyle Build Thread

I have been around here for about a year now. I have learned a lot thanks to this forum. And now I figured it was time to start a build thread.
Back in '99, my pops bought our 4runner brand new. It had 25 miles on it and looked about like this,

stock 4runner.jpg

It was a 1999 SR5, 3.4L v6, 2wd. It came with stock 6 disc cd changer, leather seats and a few of the limited upgrades (minus the tires which were 225/75/15 - tiny).
He drove it around until April 2001 and then I became the primary driver. During the 2 years he drove it around, he showed me some basics like changing oil, air filter and a few other things. Also during this time my 4runner got its first sound system, 2 JL 10s and an 800 watt amp. After the sound system came a grille guard, window visors and a bug guard.
*Sorry no pictures, it was a long time ago*
In 2003, I got a 2" spacer lift and 31x10.5r15 BFG ATs. I loved the new look and was content with my 4runner at that point. Then I nailed a Cutlass going 40 mph which turned into a TJM T15 bumper and some extra $ in my pops pocket. I then threw some Hella 500s on the front along with a UGA tag (Go Dawgs!). Then some point after the bumper, I bought a Yakima Loadwarrior on the roof.

The 4runner stayed like this all the way through college until I re-ended a full sized school going 25 mph. It was a sad day bc I hit a full sized bus! But, the TJM did its job and I drove my 4runner away and have yet to straighten the bumper (although I am looking for a metal guy here in Athens, GA to fix it).

After college I joined the U.S. Peace Corps and went to live in the Republic of Panama for 27 months. It was a great time, saw some cool stuff, learned a new language and saw a ton of old Landcruisers and Hiluxs and Prados while down there. Unfortunately during these 27 months, my pops let my 4runner sit in the yard. Needless to say, after 27 months of sitting there was a lot that needed to be done. There was a complete tune up, new tires, breaks, starter, rear axle and one hell of a bath.

Pt. 2

Unfortunately I found this site after my return and all this work had been done to my 4runner. But after finding this site, things have been looking better for my old friend. Since joining this forum a year ago, my 4runner has gone through some changes.

They are:
- OME 890s
- B&M Tranny Cooler 70268
- Sway Bar Bushings (Front & Rear)
- Thule Kayak pads
- JVC Bluetooth Digital Receiver w/ hands free mic
- Sleeping platform

- misc. stuff (tow strap, lev-o-gauge, ultragauge...)

- Plasti Dip

2013-09-22 13.34.40.jpg

These things have happened over the last year. And as all of y'all know, it is just the beginning.

Future plans are:
- Straighten TJM (ASAP)
- CB Radio and antenna
- 2.5" front spracers/ legit front lift
- Tundra 17s
- New tires (brand undecided)
- 4x4 conversion (long term)

Offroading with Bak3rme April 2013

These are some pictures from when Bak3rme and Myself went riding in April of 2013. He had a badass 4runner that ended with tranny problems. I hope he gets back in a 3rd gen soon, but 4wd this time!

Young Harris, GA

So in June 2013, I went to N. GA to visit an old friend of mine from H.S. While I was there I decided to ride North and visit Young Harris, GA. I also had a job interview up there to be a Park Manager in Helen, GA. Of course I had to get some pictures of the 4runner.

Thanks man. It is hard to find pictures when I did not have a camera, haha. But na I did not have time to call him this past weekend. I am planning on giving him a call next week and see about riding up to where he is. Also, I can't wait to see those new wheels of yours mounted up! And ya, let me know a time and I will meet you this weekend.

Nice man! I see myself in one of the pics! 4runner lookin good ;)
If anyone meets John, he is a super chill down to earth guy. Really cool guy!
I was looking over the pics and had flashbacks of 2 things I miss most..1: my 4runner and 2: Athens, Georgia.

Ready to have you out at the meet in May taking those bada$$ pictures

Put a handheld Midland CB into the 4runner. Trying to figure out a good way to mount a permanent antenna. Maybe a toytec mount or getting creative.

And with the help of Spenedwrds, these are in the future.

Got the wheels today, thanks Spenedwrds. He has an amazing 4runner by the way! But now on to tires. I am thinking something in the 255/75/17 or 275/70/17. Any thoughts are welcome, but nothing too crazy bc it is a DD.

On Hold...for now

I had a few things planned for the 4runner in the next few days/weeks, but all that is on hold as of now. My mom, Mama Doyle, passed away suddenly last night. She is/will be extremely missed. I may be absent for a minute dealing with some personal stuff, but I will be back as time moves forward.

Sorry for your loss

Very sorry for your loss man, wish you and your family the best. Look forward to having you back and also at the May meet.

Update

I have ordered the new front end suspension... I am changing from 2" spacers to Bilstein 5100s and OME 883s. Can't wait to change all that out. Also on a side note, a good buddy of mine bought an FJ60. He has a lot of plans for it and hopefully it makes appearances here with my 4runner. Anyway, here are some pictures, its an 82 with 200,000 miles on the original engine.

Front End Revamp

After 12 years and 190,000 miles on the stock coils with 2" spacers it is time for a change. i went with the OME 883s and Bilstein 5100s. Here is how they sit for now and going in later with the help of 706t4r. Pictures to follow but here is one for now...

You should really enjoy that setup, I really wish I went that route with my front end.

-Im sorry to hear about your Mom, I hope she had long and beautiful life, so sorry for your loss. my condolences to you and your family....

I lost my Dad 8 years ago. It's still difficult for me, wish he could have met my 3 kids...

Take it easy man-

Thanks man. Unfortunately she only made it 59 years. Caught all of us by surprise. They say time heals all ... i am not so sure. She will never meet my wife or any future kids either. Sad. But thanks for the kind words man. I can't wait to get these bad boys in there and feel the difference.
