Do '18 4Runners Use Garmin Navigation?

Hi! I can't seem to find these answers anywhere:
1. Does my '18 SR5P use Garmin navigation? It has the microSD chip.
2. Are free updates included for the first year (either through Garmin or Toyota)?
3. How do I/who do I see to update?

I tried going through the Toyota/Garmin update process, but when I take the chip out, I just get a message that says "no chip inserted" and can't do any of the other steps.

I am fairly certain that it is not Garmin, but not completely positive. the entune nav is really bad in my opinion. i replaced entune with a kenwood that uses Garmin. and they are nothing alike. You may want to contact toyota about updating their entune nav. Its probably something the dealer can do for you.

+1 on the completely useless stock GPS. Couple options you can explore.

1. Buy one of the CD gps mounts and throw on a Garmin GPS unit (I did this immediately). Thankfully the 5th gen hasn’t changed since 2010 so it still has a CD slot.

2. Buy the Kenwood 7” headunit with built in GPS. The new headunit is $800 and then get the new dash faceplate to fit the new headunit another couple hundred dollars.

3. Buy a couple Ram mounts one for your phone and one for an iPad. Take off the dashboard and securely drill the mounts right into the plastic. You can use your phone or iPad for GPS since you can link them via Bluetooth. This is the usual setup most Overland vehicles use.

Keep in mind if you go option 2 you will most likely get a new amp and speakers since why not... so this option can get pricey. The other two are about equal in cost assuming you have an iPhone and iPad.

I used my in-dash GPS last weekend to get to a road that paralleled a major 6 lane highway. The in-dash NAV told me to head south bound on the north bound exit ramp. Lucky for me, I was paying attention because instead of simply lost, I would have been dead.

No offense, all, but I'm not interested in criticism of our systems nor suggestions on alternatives--I know all those things. Just looking for answers to my questions.

Some Toyota vehicles do have Garmin, not the 4Runner.

People are trying to give you solutions to your problem of not having a Garmin unit. Enjoy going to the dealership for $100+ updates every year. Good luck.

Yes, you have to buy an updated SD card. There is some sort of DRM that prevents copying/updating the info on the existing SD card. You also can't copy data off the SD card and put it on a new one.

Correct, new SD. I spent several hours working on converting mine to Garmin maps.... no luck yet
