Do all Tranny Coolers do the Trick?

Just wondering if a certain brand does better than the other. Its starting to get hot out and here in HOTlanta it can get +100 degrees in the sun on a normal summer day, i just dont want to overheat the runner while driving long distances on the highway. Is there a difference say between the B&M coolers and another cheaper cooler?

That cooler doesn't exactly inspire confidence.

I don't see a price on that site, but is the small difference worth it for a cheap "Light-Duty" cooler? No, not in 100+ heat. I highly doubt that thing will be able to keep up.

Just get a B&M or Tru-cool and do it right.

31$ vs b&m 50+ dollars i would just spent 20 more bucks and get the more reliable ones that everyone else is using, and plus those dont look that effective compare to b&m

Not at all! Every trans cooler is different. There are so many different styles and dimensions and it all matters. Too small and you'll cook your trans, too large and it will never get to operating temp. I went with the B&M 70264 from Summit Racing. Had it at my door in 2 days, installed in an hr and not a problem since.

Do it immediately before you end up like me with 2 Gal of strawberry milkshake!

I have yet to ride in 4lo with a gauge but here's my thoughts. It should be about the same temp. The converter is what generates most of the heat and when your in 4lo the TC doesn't have to work nearly as hard. But of course the air flow is cut down significantly. So less air+less work=same temps right? Just my $0.02. If you have a gauge let us know the real difference.

I have a scanguage on my 2000 and 4low seems to routinely produce lower tranny temps than 4high, at least when travelling at low speeds (< 20 mph)

It was so noticeable, that any time I need 4 wheel drive, I'll switch it to 4lo if I'm travelling < 20 mph and I hardly ever use 4wheel drive over 20 mph. I use 4lo every other day now because of my scangauge tranny temps.

Yeah, there really is a difference. That cooler you posted is 4 pass finned tube heat exchanger, the B&M and some others are non-finned, tube-stack designs. The tube stack designs cause more even temperature distribution across the actual transfer surface, cause less flow restriction (due to greater cross section of flow), and are generally more resilient to damage than the finned tube designs. Your radiator is a finned tube design, but it has many passes. You can practically push your finger through the fins, breaking them. You will be hard pressed to damage a B&M style cooler.

Notice that Advance cooler doesn't specify a BTU rating. This is because it is probably very low compared to equal size B&M's. It isn't as efficient.

Definitely go with a tube stack cooler like the B&M, or I think the Hayden (sold under multiple names, TRD included I think). They also give you a bypass tube that helps to warm up cold fluid. Definitely worth the extra $20.
