Do I have rust spots developing on my rear hatch?

2010 SR5 in Blizzard Pearl...bad thing about the color is that you can see all this easily!

Thanks, I'll try to clean it. Maybe it is the brake dust/road grime kicking up. If it gets worse, I'll head down to the dealer. At least I still have a warranty!

I know you're speaking of a gen5 but I've experienced this with my runner too. I recently had the back molding removed and the hatch repainted. It was determine that the gasket between the molding and thr hatch were not aligned correctly under that molding causing it to rub against the paint. When I had it repaired, I had it corrected with a different piece so this wouldn't happen again. You can see my photos of the work done.

The Toyota warranty on the body is for rust through perforation. They don't cover surface rust.

If the dealer is nice, they might take care of you. I got them to replace the bumper on my Tacoma after 3 months when there was surface rust.

There was a TSB out for your model year(06-07) and Toyota would have fixed it if caught earlier............06-07 4Runner Rust on lift gate TSB I had an 06 and didn't have it.

On 5th Gens I believe it's just metal particles,probably from brakes, and should come off as reported before on the forum. If it is rust ,I'd definitely take it to the dealer .

Thanks Harper7. I wasn't familiar with the recall until I came here a month ago and didn't realize it might be something different than the gen5s. Just kind of sucks that owners are worrying about this so soon, doesn't seem right.

Anybody know how I can get the chrome colored piece off to clean the rust spots off? I know I have to be careful not to damage my camera

Try using a clay bar on it. Clay won't hurt the chrome.

Just use some cleaner wax and the spots will disappear like magic.
