Do Icon Coilovers Need Rebuilt?

I'm looking into Icon coilovers or something similar for my 4Runner. I know that when I had "race" type coilovers on my sportscars, they had to periodically be rebuilt since you are not able to just change out a shock. Any thoughts on needing rebuilds for these type of coilovers?

Yes.

Depends on how hard you push your truck. I was told it could be anywhere from once every 2 years to like 3 times a year. The three times a year is obviously baja 1000 stuff. Extreme abuse.

I would definitely call them and explain your situation and they'll be able to give you an accurate answer.

Not sure what the cost is. The first few times might be covered. Better be at that price!!!

I've had Icon remote resi's on my truck for over 3 years and they still perform as well as when I first installed them. The 4runner is a weekend fun rig/dog hauler and has around 8k on the Icon's. It's seen rock crawling, high speed desert runs over washboard terrain and a few whoops. I have no idea how much they would cost to rebuild but I know others have had it done with fast turn around and basically getting a "like new" unit back.

Never had to return anything for service but their technical and customer support over the phone is very good.

I think the better question to ask here is "can" they be rebuilt? Yes, that's one of the advantages of Icon and other remote resi CO's. You don't have to replace the entire shock, you can just have it rebuilt. To my knowledge, and I'm only speaking in regards to some friends of mine who have Fox CO's on their Taco's with remote resi's, they've been running them for years without any issues at all. I think they nitrogen charge them from time to time but have not had to rebuild the shock yet (and they abuse their trucks - desert racing, high speed trail runs, Utah backcountry, etc).

3 years, 25,500 miles. No problems. They can be rebuilt for a few hundred $$$ and two weeks time if they ever wear out. don't worry about it just buy them,

As an aside; the rebuildability is not limited to remote resi shocks; I've got the Radflo 2.5's and they are totally rebuildable/rechargeable/revalvable. By reputation, its very quick turnaround.

Had Icons rebuilt on my old rig. $75 per coilover, plus shipping. Had them back within a week. There are specific days Icon rebuilds, so time it right if you want the least downtime.

Fyi had them redone @ about 35k i think. I ran them pretty hard
