Do you 2 bucket wash? You should heres why

I went through some puddles this weekend on the 4runner was somewhat dirty. Had a good amount of dirt build up all over the paint and the undercarriage. I did my traditional foaming and two bucket method. Glad i did, i took pics to show the aftermath and why YOU should two bucket as well.

I am aware my hose is about to explode. But this is why im thankful i do two bucket. Both had grit guards, both clean water. This was just paint, not even the wheel water. Id hate to see what would happen to your paint if you washed your mitt in one bucket and had all that sediment being rubbed into the finish.

I use two buckets also but I rinse the mitt with a strong spray before it goes back into the soap.

Ive thought about that, especially because this was the dirtiest ive gotten mine but this seemed to work. I even know some who do 3 buckets.

I don't use the two bucket.

Usually start off with a nice blast from the pressure washer to get rid of all the surface dirt.

Then I have an extra soft bristle brush that I use, with some Purple Power. I NEVER scrub the first time.

Then another hit from the pressure washer.

Then empty the bucket, wash it out, fill it with Meguiars and water.

Get my sponge, then wash the tuck again with the sponge and Meguiars.

Never had a problem.

diluted with water it doesn't hurt the paint. I use the same process as doc but I don't use purple power on the paint just use it on the tires. I just use a car wash or dish detergent. Pressure wash first, then soft brush scrub, then clean bucket and rag.

for the wheels and tires i just spray purple power on all four then go around with the pressure washer. Theres no way i'd take a scrub brush to any tire over 30 inches lol.

I love the color of your truck LTDSC, If they had more of those I'd probably have gotten it instead of white.

thanks, i wasnt too big on it when i first saw it because i really wanted white. Mainly because every grandma in my town has a Highlander this color. I've grown to like it.

I humbly recommend going easy on the pressure washers, even with a disciplined wax schedule it can do a number on the clear coat in short order, I've seen it happen. Not trying to get into your business, just throwing it out there. Granted if there is dried, caked buildup from offroading you may not have a choice, but for the standard weekend wash easy flowing water should be all you need!

Agreed, I guess I should have clarified.

I don't hold the pressure washer at an insanely close distance to the truck, EXCEPT for the Wheel Wells and the frame. Anything other than that, I'm usually about 1.5-2 feet away, and ALWAYS at at least a 45* angle.

The wheel wells, and the door jams ger some direct spray, but thats about it.

And yeah. Use the Purple Power on the truck. Pour about 1-2 cups into the bucket, fill it with water, and go to town. Never had a problem.

I DO, however, need to do the claybar. Its never been done to the truck, and I would like to see the end result.

no clear coat on a white 4runner it's a single stage paint, however i do take it easy on the body panels doesn't take much to knock of dirt.

Definitely a 2-bucket method is a must to avoid swirls and scratches on the paint. Others do 3 bucket method.

Good thread! When I'm in a hurry, I use one bucket. FIRST, I was the body, then at the end of the wash, I'll wash my wheels/running board/inner wheel wells. OF COURSE, that is done with an old (not the same) sponge.

uhu uhu I like it! Yeah 2 buckets + quick rinsing wash mitt before it returns to dirty bucket. :banana:
