I am looking into getting a Hi Lift Jack but I heard that theres no place to mount it. I would really like the piece of mind to be able to change a flat when im off roading. Or do you guys recommend something else? Thanks for everything guys, hope your 4runners are runnin strong.

The hi-lift is kind of a love it or hate it.

First, read the manual and be extremely careful. Whether you are jacking or winching, they can actually be deadly.

Most vehicles, including most stock 4Runners, do not have sufficient mounting points to use a hi-lift. You need securely mounted rock sliders or some type of more sturdy bumper (ARB bumper for example).

They do make a very useful accessory (wheel lift) which allows you to lift a tire using the hi-lift attached to a wheel. You would then have to block the truck somehow to change a tire.

With that said, I've used mine with my old lifted Tacoma and loved it. I had rock sliders and I could lift my truck in seconds. I needed it as the lift and 33" tires I had made the stock jack useless. I also had the wheel lift which saved me off-road a couple times.

Be careful mounting the hi-lift. They are heavy and again, are deadly in an accident if they dislodge from the cargo area and start flying toward the front seat.

That's the short hi-lift story.

Thanks for all the info. Ive been watching some videos on youtube that the company made and they expressed that they can be deadly. Is the stock jack that comes with the 4runner good to use when your off roading? I just want to know that if i get a flat that i will be fine. My buddy got a flat the other weekend when i was with him and his dad brought out a hi jack lift and i thought that would be something useful to have. Thanks.

I was thinking about mounting mine with some hoseclamps and rubber hose to the cargo area D-rings...

There are threads all over the place describing all the hundreds of different ways one can use a Hi Lift Jack. It is a very handy tool, and can be used as a jack, winch, spreader, and literally hundreds of other things.

It also has seriously hurt and killed a few folks. Be careful, and keep your face out of the path of the handle.

You need sliders and off road bumpers (at least a front one if you have a tow package) to properly use a hi-lift. With out those, it is a lot more dangerous so I say do not get one until then.

thanks for all the advice. im not going to get one because it i dont have sliders or a arb bumber. do u have any suggestions that i wouldnt have to have a bumber to use?

waa?

sliders are fine you can do front or back that way,

if your asking for a new bumper check arb

You can use the hi-lift on the sides without sliders. All you need is a block of 2x4 about 6-8 inches long. Place the block on the lift and up under the pinch weld portion of the lower side of the body. This is how I jacked up mine to do the body lift install and it worked great. This will not work with a stock bumper though. Only on the sides. I have seen extenders on the market though that allow use with stock bumpers, so I know they are out there. If you are just running stock everything, you probably do not need one, but with a lift and larger tires, I would recommend it, that is why it is called the "hi" lift.

x5 you have no bidness using a hi-lift if you are running stock everything us that money on sliders and whatever, with no bumper,no lift,no sliders you have made the need for a hi-lift about zero, you'd be far better off just carrying a standard floor/atv jack with you, you know the kind with 4-wheels and a handle.
carry that and a few bits of wood to stop it from sinking in the dirt and to get the right height to lift your rig.

i have a hi-lift and a arb, but don't carry the hi-lift for the most part as with no lift on my truck and no sliders i really don't have much use for it at this point in time. a standard jack is quicker, safer and more effective at this point.

now they are an invaluable tool if your truck is lifted and armored and your deep in the chit, as mentioned above they can be used for so much and will work were standard jacks won't but chances are if your truck is stock or near stock you don't really have a need for it and are endangering yourself
wasting time and money fooling around with a hi-lift otherwise.
