I am about to sell my 05 4Runner V8 with 56xxx miles but I am @ NYC....and is not limited....

Thinking about posting it on for sale for I am too new and did not have enough post to start new thread....lol...
 
I was finally aloud to post today.... lol These cars are not easy to come by. Well at least in my area, just flooded with cherokees and commanders.
 
4Runner belongs to wife....It is a great truck, never got stuck in snow and is reliable...

Need to upgrade with third row sitting which is why we are selling it....I will put it on craiglist and possible ebay and see......

When searching for our 4r, there were 4 in a 100 mi radius with 3rd...theyre not easy to find around me (SEPA)
 
Interesting that they're hard to find. I haven't looked at what's for sale around here but the Denver area has tons of them.
 
How long have you been looking? I kept an eye on craigslist, ebay, cars.com, autotrader, etc. for about 3 months before I found my 4r. 2006 94k miles from a Mercedes dealership scheduled to go to auction.

Been looking for 6 weeks now... guess it seems like forever. Ill just keep looking.

Why an arbitrary mileage like 150k? Why not consider the vastly more important variables such as maintenance history, record keeping, quality of repair parts used, ownership history, storage conditions, amount of rust, body condition, and mechanical condition?

Solely focusing on mileage is a sucker's game. With some smart shopping, you can get an absolutely screaming deal on a very well maintained, higher mileage rig in near flawless condition.

Seeing your join date, we were probably looking at the same 4Runners :) I was working in Allentown and shopping basically Philly to Dickson City, and out past Harrisburg.

Requiring that third row really cut down on availability.

I hate to say this but 3rd row on the 4runner is useless in a way because it is only good for little kids as far as I can see (on 4th gen 4Runner). I have two boys 8 and 9 and we saw a 4runner with third tow when we were on a camping trip last year and asked the owner if I can take a look at it , he saw we also have a 4runner and have my boys sit on it and boy, I am glad I did not get it when I bought the truck new 2005......

Im diffidently taking all that into account. If I come across that I would be open to purchasing it. No matter what the mileage honestly I will be looking for a well maintained vehicle.
 
You should never be scared of a high mileage car because owners that drive a lot on their vehicle's tend to take care of them a lot better. Of course not every vehicle with high mileage will be flawless, they're common issues and some problems with the vehicle that might need fixing. Always check the vehicle and see if the seller can provide service records, get under the vehicle check for leaks and rust. If you can take it to your mechanic to have him check it out that would be great and provide a peace of mind.
 
Bought this for $4,800. Single owner with 264,000 miles and all maintenance records since new. Sold it a year later for $8,500. The price difference was justified in all the modifications performed to the vehicle.

Bought this for $3,800 with 326,000 miles. Same story, single owner and full maintenance records. Guy commuted an obscene amount daily. Car felt and drove like new. Sold a year and a half later for $4,500.

I have about 8 more examples, all from the past few years. I haven't been let down yet. I accidentally deviated from this rule just once and bought a 2007 BMW 335i with only 75,000 miles for $17,000. Lost $5k when I sold it for $12,000 a year later.
 
Go look at them all. Crawl underneath and look for leaks, rust, damage, etc. Test all the electronic functions. In general, I'm always more inclined to buy a vehicle from a private owner. You can get better info on the history and things like that. You can also get a feel for how the person is and if they are being honest. The one from the dealer has been all cleaned up for sale. Looks pretty and shiny and we are attracted to things like that... but leaks and other issues can be somewhat hidden.
 
Its more important to get a truck from an area where there isn't any rust. Rust is the enemy and you can't really "fix" it unless you just get another car.
 
When you do find one and test drive it, make sure the 4Low and the Center Locking Differential is working. Good Luck and Good Hunting!
 
Listen to all the great advice. My 2cents care more about any rust than high miles! I was so surprised at a low mileage 03' V8 Sport that I thought the rust wasn't "that bad"..lets just say the underneath is as bad as they come and while I paid a decent price I didn't save enough to accommodate all the extra work I'm doing on it. And also no matter how Joe shad tree mechanic you are get a darn mechanic to look at it!! You'll see what I mean when the Rusty Runner build thread arises.
