I was doing a little pick and pull and thought a $20 corral gate -type spare tire rack might make a great add on to my naked toosh 95. Room for a 5gal gas, a 5 gal of water and a keg of pilsner just in case either of those run out.
Factory of course, nothing but the best junk for my rig.
I was going to pull the exterior tail gate receptacle / hitch point, but hardware faces both ways ( in and outward) , then once inside the tail gate, I saw the re-inforcement plates were top to bottom, NO way to remove. It would be easier to just swap the entire gate, thus the only trick is to wait for the right color.
Inside the right rear corner, where the gate is hinged, there are some nut holding brackets but they bridge into the inner panel / body box framing. Again , not a chance of pulling them out without a torch.
Not tempted to bolting heavy object simply to exterior sheet metal panels.
When did Toy do away with the rear gate spare tire rack ? Those were like '92s I was trying to pull from. If it was still an option in 95, it would make lots of sense that Toy would put in the brackets (imaged a rear tire bracket floating down the assembly line, and they build a truck around it, it was that integral to the sheet metal) and simply not make bolt holes unless optioned that way, but.....
It was of course far easier to dismantle the rig in the bone yard since I didnt GAF about reinstall points, so without wanting to burrow into my rear interior panels, I wonder whats the odds of my 95 having some or all of the internal support for a rack ?
Are rear racks a done conversion?
