Does anyone know what’s going on with my radio here?

The “popping” sound you hear after I turn the radio on plays through all the speakers and is quite loud.

I’ve taken it out and made sure all the plugs were in properly. Antenna is non-motorized, after market that came with the vehicle (I mention this because someone once suggested it might be a short in the antenna).

Vehicle is a 2000 Limited.

Edit: Another thing to note, after I drive for about 15 minutes it’s stops doing this and the radio works as normal. Then when I turn the car off for a while and come back it works still. It only does it again when it sits like 10+ hours.

I assume no sound occurs on other inputs like AUX or CD? Then antenna is a good bet. Try unplugging the antenna from the radio (thick black wire in the back). If no pop, that's it.

Grounding of either antenna motor or HU chassis may be the cause. No guarantee, but you can try adding a grounding wire on both from a handy screw to a good chassis ground and you might get lucky.

When I took the unit out before and unplugged the antenna wire it made this obnoxious sound and even sparked a little if the end of the wire touch the unit.

I’ll give the grounding wires a look and see what I can find.

That really should not happen. That antenna may have an internal circuit short.

Today I took it all out again. The problem still persisted even with both the antenna and the other plug undone (still had the main circuit type plug in). It only stopped when I removed all power from the unit. I’m assuming this means it’s an issue with the head unit. I planned on replacing the unit at some point anyway, just wasn’t ready to do it now. Been trying to take care of some other things first. But I guess it’s going to be jumping up in the priority list.
