Does anyone use a cargo box to carry skis, efc?

Looking to buy a Thule or another co., possibly cargo carrier to carry my skiing equipment this winter.
Wondering if anyone can recommend an inexpensive brand of carriers they use or have used. Thule runs around $300.
Also wondering if anyone has pictures of T4R with a cargo box on top.

have you search Craigslist.org in your area? you can have a nice Thule or Yakima for half price!

too bad you dont live in CA, there tons on CL here. but its not worth the shipping. might as well buy new.

I do tons of skiing every year and have yet to need a cargo box. However, this year, I am going to get some ski/snowboard racks that fit onto the factory roof racks. I've seen them usually go for around $30-50 (fits 4 skis or 4 snowboards) on CL and a local classifieds. I don't know why you need those bulky cargo boxes?

those box can carry alot of stuff. you can even put other stuff in there to make more room in the trunk area for the trip. might have a dog that ride in the trunk area. so the extra space comes into play.

I can see how for longer trips, the cargo box coming in handy. However, I was assuming the OP was talking just about going up to ski, in which case the cargo box WOULD work, but there are cheaper options. :beer:

i think they are more areo dynamic and a little better on gas then the ski/board cairrier you see on most cars/trucks.

Ok, I agreed with you when we were talking about the cargo space, but gas mileage?? C'mon, man! Anything that sticks up above the rack will have more or less the same affect on the MPG. Maybe .02MPG difference? If you're that worried with the mileage, just carry it inside.

ok lets stop horring up this persons thread hahaha. i use Thule 575 & 724 ski racks. i am not worried about gas after all these mods.

ok back to gzkrutoy - i have seen some cheap stuff, but i dont like it compare to yakima & thule. they are made of out cheap plastic. craftmenship isnt all there. they crack after being weather beaten. if your gonna buy something, might as well fork out the money and buy a good one. just my 2cent.
