Does Excessive Highway Kms Alter Auto Trans Fluid Changing?

Hey Folks,

The 07 manual says our rig needs Auto Trans Fluid Service at 96k. We currently have ~ 80K so by summer I'm sure we'll be getting ready for the service.

My question is, does excessive highway Kms alter the interval? Of the 80K so far, probably 50Kms has been Freeway /Highway/Interstate (on vacation) driving.

Just check your dipstick. If it's not bright red or pink in color, it's time to change it. My buddy hasn't changed his for 4 years and the dipstick just turned a tadbit dirty. Plus, he poured BG 44K transmission additive 4 yrs ago.

No dipstick on 07. Sealed OE unit.

I do plan on changing my transmission fluid when I have more miles on it. But IIRC, Toyota says the WS fluid is a lifetime fluid that doesn't require any servicing under normal operating conditions.

Hmmmm that seems odd. ALL Fluids need changing. Especially since the 07 manual states tranny fluid change at 96Km, I have to question Toyotas stance of lifetime fluid.

fluid is cheap

Why risk premature failure? New fluid is inexpensive compared to replacing a tranny hope you would agree....

I stay away from the auto trannys myself but the number one reason they fail is neglect. Love your baby with new fluids....synthetics if at all possible for that added measure of protection/peace of mind.

I am no mechanic and not pretending to be. But replacing fluids "ahead of schedule" is just good practice.
