Does My Tranny Have A Problem?

I have an '05 V8 with about 2500 mi on it.
I was driving in traffic this afternoon and was trying to see where a creaking sound was coming from in the rear passenger area.
Anywho, I looked up and had to brake pretty hard to keep from hitting the guy in front of me. I immediately went to accelerate because it was OK and the engine revved but the truck didn't move. I looked at the shifter to make sure I hadn't somehow knocked it into nuetral and it was still in drive. I thought WTF. I tried the accelerater again and the truck accelerated just fine.
This can't be normal, can it? Can there be some kind of safety feature built into the tranny that disconnects it from the rest of the drive train under a hard braking situation?
Kind of has me a little worried.

My guess is that since you had to brake hard, this caused the transmission to think you had stopped and so it down shifted to first. You immediately stepped on the gas and the transmission had to catch up with what you were trying to do.

If your momentum had you still going 30MPH and the trans thought you were stopped it might have caused you to think it was in neutral until it caught up.

IMHO

Yeah, hopefully it was something normal. Maybe I just caught the trans at just the wrong moment. It just kind of worried me a little.

If you hear a creaking sound coming from the rear passenger area, it is most likely from the rear seat latch. Just wrap some electrical tape over the U shaped latch and it should go away. A good way to test this is to fold the rear seats flat, and see if the creaking sound is still there.

Man, there seems to be a lot of posts about this.
I just went out to the truck and removed some items I had in the little compartment on the wheel well, unlatched the seat back and firmly relatched it, and pulled up the seat bottom and firmly put it back in place and went for a ride. So far it seems good. I removed my cargo cover before, because I knew it was making some sounds.
I will definitely be watching that area, but not in traffic anymore.:D
