Does the 4runner feel smaller now that you have one?

i've only had mine a couple weeks and i'm still not entirely accustomed to it (read: still feels bigger) however inside the cabin i consider this is a huge plus. it's really a "90% half mental" kind of thing; only ~1" bigger in every dimension than the 4G.

When I first drove the 5th gen, it felt a lot bigger. I have had mine 1 1/2 months now and I really like the size. I t is still easy to maneuver, althought the turning radius seems wider the the 4th. I have driven past a couple of 4th gens and notice I sit about 4-6 inches higher which I like.
I imagine if I got back in a 4th gen, it would feel small.

My previous car was a Honda Accord, so my TE felt huge at first. However, it is only a few inches larger in length and width. Now that I am used to it and after driving off-road with it quite a bit (navigating through tight spaces), it does not feel so huge. I was surprised on how tight of trails I was able to squeeze through, with minimal scratching. :thumb3: Only downside with maneuverability is turning radius.
On a side note, I parked next to a 4th gen Limited, same color as mine (black). The 5th gen looks so much sweeter! :fro: Particularly the aggressive shape of the front end and a more streamlined rear spoiler-looking thing (that houses the rear wiper). I don't like how the 4th gen's spoiler sticks up above the roof of the vehicle. 4th gen = soccer mom (with some exceptions for modded ones), 5th gen = beast (as-is off the lot), looks-wise as least.

I think the roominess is excellent. I'm 6'0" tall and this is the first car I've had in a while where I can sit up straight in the seat without making contact with the roof. No reclining to make up for lack of head room. I also think the back seat and rear cargo area are quite spacious for a mid-size SUV.
I came from a 4th gen SR5 to my 5th gen TE about a month ago and the TE still feels bigger. As someone said above, most of this is mental. I think that the higher roofline at the windshield and bigger glass all around makes it feel roomier. Something about the dash also, but can't quite figure what it is.

Coming from a Tahoe, it felt smaller at first, but a month into it the only thing I notice is a bit less hip room. Every time I think about that I just look at the MPG readout and smile............4 to 5 more mpg from a more rugged (and hopefully more reliable vehicle) is more than wort it!
I will say that the smartkey system is quirky and doesn't seem as intuitive as what I'm used to but that's another topic.

I definatly feel like mine has gotten smaller. When I first drove it it looked and felt giant to me, now it feels just like my 4th gen did, large but not overly big. I know it's only because I have settled into it more, even when I look at it it seems like it looks smaller. I think it has to do with the color of it but of the few others I have seen on the roads, it looks a lot smaller to me for some reason.

I have an 1985 Toyota pick-up and a 2007 PT "Street" Cruiser... the 4Runner is never going to feel small to me.

Don't forget I am a guy so my 4-6" is probably overstated. Also, this was at highway speeds so I didn't get out my ruler. Based on passing cars on the road, it feels taller than the 4th gen and similar in height to say a Tahoe.
mine definitely feels roomier than my 4th gen. I love the auto up and down on all windows. Even after having it for 4 months now I still love my 4 runner. I definitely like the squared off look better. reminds me more of the 3rd gens. the 4th gens were nice....but just a lil too rounded, now that i've had a 5th gen. i also feel that the ride in my 5th gen was nicer than my 4th....and the heated leather butt warmers are definitely nice on my 4am trips into work.....seat is nice and warm even if the cabin hasnt warmed up yet....feels very good to people with iffy backs.
it is definitely bigger than the FJ I had or my tacoma.
Only drawback i have is that I love my slider.....but because i have stuff i store, i've found i cant use the slider without dumping my toolbox and my go kit all over the backend....so I kind of wish I would have just not opted for it now, so facilitate a rear cargo area a little more like an FJ, where i had the all weather mats, which were awesome.
