HI,

Guys I am in the middle of replacing the axle on my 4runner, I have removed the 4 bolts of the lower bj, I should be able to just pull the axle assembly out, right?

Its stuck, not sure if I just need to use force or am I missing a step, I have been searching on the forum and nothing specific comes up

btw: I have been following the tutorial on the 3rd gen sub-forum

many thanks

i've used THIS write-up every time and it's always gotten the job done right. if you're talking about the hub/spindle then you should be able to pull it right off the end of the axle. However, getting the other end of the axle out is another story. There is a snap ring on it and requires prying. See step 16 and on in that link and you should be set.

thanks, tapping with a mallet and prying with the screw driver worked, installing the new one took some tapping too, there isnt really a good place to hit on it, ........ I just wrapped a towel on a rod and tapped at the inner boot until it went in...what is recommended?.

Everything is back up, test drove and no leaks and no weird noises....this was my first time. and my truck being from KS and a 98...had the wheels seized on the hub, took some PB and kicking to get it loose, axle cup took some prying too but the nut was not a problem.....lower bj was also a b***h......all in all it took me several hours...
