Does this bolt have a backing nut/washer?

Hi there,

I’m about to install an antenna mount bracket, and I am curious to know if there’s any washers behind this bolt in the engine compartment.

It’s on the right side where the quarter panel seems to be mated to the panel that comprises the engine compartment.

I can just imagine a scenario where I undo it and I hear something drop out from underneath that is irretrievable inside the body panel. Ha.

yes there is a nut welded to the inner fender that the bolt goes into. there is always a chance you are the 1 in 1000 that the welds on the nut have broken off of but its so rare you are just stressing over nothing. worst case you just remove the inner fender skirt and go in from under the fender to put a backing nut on it.

Try spinning it to find out. If there is a washer and a nut it either won't loosen or while loosening you could move the nut/bolt up and down.

But like mentioned the nut is more than likely attached to the other panel otherwise it would be difficult to install or remove. Have some faith in Toyota's engineers! :)
