Does your 4runner pull ?

Update on the situation:

Could not wait until Thursday for the shop to call me. I work at a dealer and I had my front end guy do an alignment and balance all 4 tires again. He said alignment was slightly out but not too bad.

When he balanced the tires 1 tire was missing 50g, another 100g and another 165g. Drove the 4runner home yesterday and its riding the same (pulling to the right) but now is vibrating even more. He's going to check road force today, and possibly swap the tires to see if its a tire pull.

Attached is the alignment sheet from yesterdays alignment.

Hopefully this gets sort out soon :(

my 2020 limited pulls as well. I have 3900 miles on it and had it back in at 2500 - was told it was within spec. I constantly have to put slight pressure on the steering wheel to the right side. They claim it's the crown in the roads. I plan to have mine checked again when i take it in for the 5000 mile service.

Get it checked as Toyota only offers 1yr/12K mile warranty on alignment. After that, you have pay out of pocket

I thought about this, not sure where I can find a perfectly straight road here in south Florida but I have tested in different streets and highways and I’m still getting the pull.

I ended up bringing back the 4runner to the shop. 3rd time is the charm !

Yeah, south Florida is known for its curvy roads! LOL

It’s the crown in the road, that’s why everyone here has a vehicle that pulls right. Living in an area with uneven terrain, I also get the joy of it pulling whichever way the terrain slopes. You can’t change physics.

What I see missing is cross caster. For areas with more crown in the road, you want more caster on the RIGHT hand side than the LEFT hand side by about 0.2-0.3 degrees. That will cause a slight pull to the left that will offset the tendency to drift right on crowned roads. Have them set the right hand side caster to around 3.2 and the left to 3.0. I think it'll go a long way to helping resolve your issue.

good luck

Wait. Unless I'm reading this wrong, he would need more positive caster on the passenger side to fight the road crown compared to the driver. That's always been my understanding of it anyhow.

Yep. You're right. I had it backwards. More caster on the passenger side. Glad you caught that.

I have same issue. I did the lift in October, let it settle fore a few weeks short trips to grocery store around the corner type of driving then took it in for an alignment. No pull prior or at least not to the right. Here are my numbers: 5th Gen Alignment After Lift Pulls Right : 4Runner

Alignment done at a local North Atlanta Toyota dealership, was thinking of going to my local 4wheelparts shop thinking they deal with lifted vehicles and will do a better job.

Any feedback based upon my numbers would be appreciated.

I’m on about 6 different alignments. 3 or 4 tire balancing and still not riding smooth. Road force on all tires is good. I give up... just gonna ride it as is until the tires wear out like crap and gonna change my wheels and change tire brand. The pull got slightly better but still pulling. Have tried cross rotating every single tire.

I wonder if those of us who all pull to the right all have a lift. Does it pull when stock from the factory? I have often thought that perhaps this is related to the rear lift and the track bar that causes the whole rear axle to shift to the right when the rear is lifted. Maybe it is this thrust angle from rear causing this issue. Also, for the naysayers it is not crown of the road when we can get the same pull on the freeway or other roads when the crown is not there. I think I am smart enough to know when the road I am driving on has a crown.

What do you set your tire pressures to, OP? I filled mine up from 37 psi to 40 yesterday (285/70/17). Drove it around today and it made a pretty big difference in my case. I find it wants to go straight and I don't have to hold the wheel to the left as much.

Fermn the roads here in Florida have a lot of crown in them to drain the insane amount of water that can fall in a matter of minutes. I've noticed different brands of tires react differently, but that said, 6 alignments is unacceptable. I'm convinced 2/3 of the techs out there have no clue how to align anything bigger than a Corolla.

I have a 12' Limited full time AWD and the constant torque pulling to the right is a little irritating. I let off the gas and it's not as bad, but then the crown of the road will make it drift to the right. So it's not just your truck lol.

Bigger tires make it all seem worse on these trucks for some reason. Jetboy and MyanRagahis have some good advice adjusting caster on the passenger side. That might help some, as well as experimenting with PSI.

Balancing certain tires is unobtainable for some techs, and some tire and rim combos are just more difficult to be balanced. Unfortunately it happens once in awhile.

I’m at 38 I believe

My 2019 ORP pulled to the right since driving off the showroom floor. Had it back to the dealer multiple times: they have road force tested, replaced tires, done multiple alignments.... while it is a bit better after all this work, the truck still pulled to the right slightly.

All of above was with OE lift/wheels/tires.

I installed Toytec lift front/rear + SPC UCA's over quarantine myself.... carefully drove it to a reputable local 4wd shop. They got it all aligned, but the damn thing *still* pulls to the right slightly.... actually no different than pre-lift.

I've since rotated *every* single tire (yes, even the spare) in every possible combination in an effort to eliminate any "bad" tires to no avail.

So - at this point, I'm going to just deal with it until its these tires are roached and then replace with a real set of ATs (will replace wheels also) and hope that it all goes away. The shoddy Dunlops they put on these from the factory are complete shite and my hope is that they are the underlying root cause. Until then...... :redbrick:

For the record: my ORP still pulls to the right even now with 21k miles. Swapping out the wheels/tires in December so will post up with results after that. I swear it is these crappy Dunlop's!

My brand new 2021 pulls, pulls to right, so I have to turn steering wheel to the left a little bit to keep car goes straight. A little bit, about 2~5 degree I guess?

I brought it back to dealer. They checked alignment specs, said numbers are all good. Technician took a test drive, said it’s normal, or it was caused by crowned/uneven road pavement.

I drive mine 100km/day on different roads, I’m pretty sure it pulls, and I think for auto technicians it’s too minor, not worth to do re-alignment.

Also I am curious, who do the factory alignments? Crew of Tahara Plant or people work in ports?

Sitting at the dealership now, with 240 miles on the odo on my new 2021 TRD Pro, as it's pulling to the right.

Before they even pulled it to the back they said "yeah.. we've been having this problem with a lot of 4Runners..."

If you guys have issues from the get-go on a new 4Runner, take it in.
