Does your HomeLink work when your 4Runner has been parked?

I tested it as phillyd2 suggested.

Left my window down, locked the car and waited 30+ min. With the car locked, reaching through the window and pressing the homelink button did NOT activate my garage opener.

Next, I unlocked the car, reached in the window (without opening any doors), and tried again. With the car unlocked but no doors open, the homelink button activated my garage door opener successfully.

Therefore, homelink is only active when the car is unlocked or on.

Kind of figured that would be the case. Next leave it unlocked for a bit and try hitting the button again without opening the door.

I park in my garage nearly 100% of the time, but when I have things like a new driveway installed, a new garage door installed, new garage flooring, or floor drain, I cannot.

why did you wait 30+ min? why would the homelink still work after 29min?

i would think that homelink would deactivate the switches after the doors are locked and the dome light turns off.

The 30ish min wait wasn't intentional and was just the time between locking the car and finishing what I was doing at the time. I really should've tried it immediately after locking. :ybrick:

Mine still worked after 30sec of locking the doors. Cars usually go into sleep mode after a while but opening a door or unlocking wakes everything back up even without the key. So either way it won’t prevent any unwanted use unless they just reach through an open window while passing by.

If you don’t already have it, You should be able to get a cheapo wired remote for your garage opener that has a “lock” switch on it. This deactivated all remotes temporarily.
