Dog Proofing my new 4Runner?

When my dogs ride in the seats on occasion I use a waterproof seat hammock. This protects the leather and also contains their hair a bit better. It has straps that just loop over the headrests.

Thanks for the Hammock link 4RnR Grl. That is exactly what I was looking for, for my girlfriends new Edge. Her dog sheds like no tomorrow and the suede inserts on those seats do not suffer fools.

I vacuumed the car out after only two weeks old and it took me about 1/2 hour to get all the dog hair out.

Oh yeah I've seen those, a lot more coverage and looks like it's a vinyl instead of the canvas. Looks awful to me, like the inside of a cab but great coverage if your animals like to tear stuff up.

I say put some cheap blanket or sheet over the middle seats and put a rubber mat down in the back cargo and call it a day....that works well enough for me.

I have a Trail 2015 with a black interior and a Golden Retriever who swims every other day. I use a heavy camo pattern of nylon. Only two people ride in the 4rnner, so I tuck the fabric over the second row seat and fold it down. Dog hair easily shakes out. Never the less, hairs sticks to the unprotected areas.

From the day I bought my truck I wanted to make sure the dogs stayed in the back and everything was easy to clean. I purchased the Ultimate Pet Liner to cover the back including the sides and the gate, easy cleaning just wiping down the vinyl, threw the weathertech on top, and then got the Raingler net to keep them in the back. The net only lasted one trip before my dog decided to test the limits of the net (he won) but the folks at Raingler are repairing the net for basically the cost of shipping. Great people to deal with.

I just spent about 4 hours the other day cleaning the inside of my rig out. I have German Shorthaired Pointers and their short coarse hair really lodges itself into the cheap ass carpets in these things. I ordered a canvas back and just got it so excited to see how it works.

I have the OEM cargo liner and I am not impressed. It slides around more than I would like it to and Husky Liners and Weather Tech's options seem to be a better fabrication. Generally, I just use a queen sized dark comforter and then just wipe the sides of the cargo area and windows down when I am done. If you need a more permanent solution, you might want to look in to the cargo to back seat leveling (storage box) mod on Antman's page. It would allow an easier way to get a third crate to slide to sit on the back of the seat easier. Welcome, god luck.

I have an older yellow lab and black interior. Between his fur and slobbery jowls, keeping my 4R clean was an up hill battle. I found a low cost solution, that while its not the most visually appealing, it works really well.

1. Take a black queen size bead sheet (unfitted) and draped it over the rear seat so half the sheet is over the front of the seat and half falls down the rear of the seat.

2. Marked out where the head rests are with chalk.

3. Using the head rests marks as a guide cut holes/slits in the sheet for the head rests to go through. Test fit the sheet over the seat and head rests.

4. Sew around the holes/slits to keep them from further ripping.

5. Place a black pillow case over each head rest.

6. Drape the sheet over the rear seat with the pillow case covered head rests going through the holes/slits.

7. Tuck edges of the sheet into the crevices around the back seat, and cover the cargo area floor with a matt of your choosing (WeatherTech).

This solution is cheap, easy to set up, easy to remove, and easy to wash. Cleaning the slobber marks out of the seat fabric was just as big of a pain as getting all his fur out of the fabric, and this solution take care of both. I will post a picture when I get home...if I remember.
