How do you guys secure your dog? Do the dog seatbelts need to latch into an actual belt system? Can i use them if the dog is in the cargo area?

Thanks

I just made a short leash that attaches to the dogs harness that I can clip to the back of the rear seats.

You can also buckle a seat belt, and then run the leash behind both parts and reattach it to the harness, it would have to be a fairly short leash though. It would mostly serve to keep the dog in the vehicle in case of a roll over or bad wreck...

I tried the seat belt harness, but didn't care for it (neither did the dog). Went back to using the crate (tied down for security). I feel better about leaving him alone in the vehicle too, because he is a chewer (AmStaff/Husky/Golden Retriever mix).

My 90 pound chocolate lab rides in the back cargo area without any issues. He loves sticking his head out of the rear window that rolls down. I'm always sure to drive extra cautiously when he's aboard.

I bought a dog safety harness with a tether that fits into a standard seatbelt buckle. But instead of sitting on a seat, the hound dog rides in the back, tethered to one of the tie downs. The seatbelt buckle insert at the end of the tether is attached to the tie down ring with a carabiner. She loves riding in the 4R.

How firmly are those tie down rings attached?
