Doing a 1.5" lift correctly

I only want a moderate lift. I don't want to destroy the linkages and really wear down my suspension components.

But I want to do it right (ie, not spacers). Is it possible to get a complete suspension kit and only lift 1.5" rather than the 2" or 3" that often accompanies the full kits?

Put on Bilsteins adjustable shocks.

I put Bilsteins 5100 adjustable shocks up front set at 1.750" with stock springs and in the rear put a Daystar 1.500" spacer machined down to 1.125" (because in the rear I could not find springs less than 2" lift) and I have about 1/2" rake, higher in the rear. New rear Bilsteins on order but just with the Bilsteins in front the truck rides Sooooo much better. No more floating feeling. Now the truck looks very level and has a nice stance and helped dramatically with the front nose dive.

Depending on your budget , I would suggest going with the King off-road suspension . The system will accommodate a 3 inch lift or just level out the t4r as how mine is set currently. My t4r now feels so much more controlled, smooth like stock without the excessive lean and noise dive, yet it just eats up big impacts. Very high quality components that should last the life time of your vehicle.

You can rock OME 883 coils on stock shocks up front for 1.5"-1.75" and SAW coils with stock shocks for 1.5" out back. It will improve the ride all around without breaking the budget.

I am looking for a similar lift as you. After poking around here a while it's what I am probably going to do when the time is right....

I am kind of in the same boat.

I bout SAW's 1.5" for the rears and Toytec CO's up front with the Bilsteins all the way around . Still have to get it on though .

has anyone done this yet? how will it affect the durability of the stock shocks

Did you get any vibrations from the lift I had a Tacoma that I did a three inch lift on and could no get rid of the vibrations. Does there have to be a bit of a rake I wanted to just level it out with billsteins in the front but don't want any issues like I had on the tacoma.

so instead of ome 895e in the back.. the SAW are a bit less lift thus evens out the rake?

yeah they are 1/2" less not to mention they have a spring rate that is softer (213lbs vs. 180 lbs stock(?)) than most other lift springs, which should translate into improved capacity/handling without being too harsh. Again I personally have not done this yet, so its all in theory using other members experiences.

No I did not get any vibrations just a better ride. I originally just had the front Bilsteins which made the truck look level but if you looked at the rocker panels it looked low in the rear (At least to me!) but now with the slight lift in rear it looks right to me. You don't have to have the rake but if you carrying a load in the rear or maybe people in the back then the rear will be looking lower if you don't mind.

Thanks I have been wanting to level it out since I got it I just don't want those dreaded vibes I got from the carrier bearing on my Tacoma. I think I might go for it. Where did you order your 5100's from?

I bought them locally from the shop that installed them because he could get them for me right away because at the time I had them installed nobody had them.
Downsouth motorsports and 4wheel online had great prices at the time.

I just ordered a set of the SAW 1.5" rear coils.

I currently have Bilstein 5100's front and back, with the fronts at 1.75".

Its sitting almost exactly level right now, but on a recent trip to OBX the weight of passengers and luggage had the rear sagging pretty good so I'm hoping to get a little bit of the factory rake back.

Additionally, I'll be adding a rear tire carrier in a few weeks so I figure with the weight of that on the back it's about time to stiffen up the rear end. I'll be sure to post pics and impressions when I get them in.
