Dome/Map lights out

Folks,

Finally joined the club... and purchased a 2004 4runner limited...:awais:

Anyway, the one known problem was that the dome and map lights (all interior overhead lights) are out... possibly others. Dash lights are fine. The cars remote is also not working (that can be a battery... or, again, a fuse).

I started looking for bad fuses in the vehicle, but have not found any blown ones yet. There are a couple of "empty spots that I'm not quite sure should be filled. Also, I have not checked the fuses in the relay box.

Anyone (by chance) know which fuse controls these items?

Look at the 10 amp dome fuse. Also be sure to check the fuse with an ohmeter don't rely on sight. If you have the illuminated mirrors in the sun visors I have heard of a short happening there. It might be a good start to unplug the power to both visors, then look at fuses (under hood next to battery and in drivers side dash). Look for scraped insulation on the wires feeding the visors. Let us know what you find so it can be added to this database.

Looks like it was the 10amp Dome fuse in the engine compartment. That takes care of that.

The driver side running board lights are on now... but at the same time, the passenger running board lights are not. Could it be the bulbs are out, or do I need to do something for those to turn on?

I'll bet the passenger side lamp is burned out. Not to be a wet blanket or anything but something caused that 10amp dome fuse to fail. If it happens again remember about the visors. Hopefully there won't be anymore problems.

Passenger side lamp? The passenger side marker bulb was out... but I replaced it and all is good.

Hi all,
I have a 2004 4runner limited and its dome lights, map lights and visor lights are not working. I already checked the dome light fuse and relay. They both have no issues. I need to find out any wiring issues with my 4runner. Can anyone help me on that?

Specimen: '07 Limited V8 4WD

I (stupidly) used a metal pick to remove the vanity mirror light while doing an interior LED conversion w/o disconnecting power.... Didn't realize the gold plate behind the bulb was a point of contact and immediately killed all cabin lights. Here's what affected so far:

- Interior lights do not work
- Car Remote does not work
- Clock resets to "1:00" every time I start it
- Trip A/B resets to 0 miles every start (regular Odometer keeps working)
- Tachometer seems to be glitchy on start up as well

Unlike some others have mentioned in other threads, My AC system and radio seems to be working fine. I'm waiting for a new DOME relay to be delivered and hope that'll be an easy fix. However nothings easy, and with my AC/Radio working and Dan saying the relay didn't solve his issue I'm scared it wont fix mine

Put in two new relays from amazon, and tried shuffling some of the relays around in case those were bad... sadly, but not unsurprising this didn't solve my issue. Does ANYONE have recommendations on what to do next?

For clarity, I replaced the "DOME" relay (Blue 12V) in the engine bay fuse box. Is there another fuse/relay that this could be related too? I'm seriously bummed by this just bc of it being such a stupid mistake that could cost $$$.

Silver lining: It's drivable. Its definitely annoying that the fob, map lights, and clock doesn't work (never realized how much I used them until they're gone).

dome fuse and tail lfuse i would check those, gauge fuse, make sure to check all inside and outside fuse box. if you have Leds, make sure to reverse the polarity.

This is what I have done. I have an 04 T4R that I've had and taken care of since 2006. In this scenario before going and buying fuses etc, disconnect both positive and negative battery cables. Put both the positive and negative cables together metal to metal for 3-5 minutes, longer is fine. I've left mine together with a ZIP tie overnight. This will reset everything. Just to reiterate, this is touching the cables together AFTER they are both DISCONNECTED from the car battery. You will need to reset your clock, radio stations, time and it will take some driving for your 4runners computer system to recalibrate, sensors will take time/miles as well so be patient. This should fix your lighting trouble. Hope it helps, DENA

For the dome lights there try to hit (and yes I mean hit, smack that thing) the center one behind your head right in front of the light. Start soft and get harder but don't go crazy.
None of my dome/overhead lights work unless I brawl that one until it turns on. I'm not sure how to fix, but this is something you could try.
I'll get a video of it doing this later too. (If I don't pass out after midterms tonight)

Note:
Don't hit the light itself. Hit the section to the front of the light, or around the light. Make sure it's set to on. It may flash while you smack the roof, but once it's on it will generally stay on.

Running an 03' that just turned 21.
My fuse amperage may be wrong I swapped a few out a because the stock 4runner radio fuse keeps blowing for no reason. Then it became other ones blowing randomly with correct fuses. I think its a 10 in there right now.

(Also didn't see that this was from 2008 woah)

My 2003 had no dome lights or vanity mirror lights remote keys would not work tried replacing fuse and it would blow. Based on some info already posted I disconnected the visors and tried to replace the fuse and everything started to work. Dome lights, key remotes, running board lights, so basedon that I zerod in on the visors. First the passenger side and the wires came right out of the visor indicating maybe that was the problem. Then checked the driver side. Wires seemed ok so I replaced it and everything was still working. Since the passenger side wires where pulled out and I reinstalled that side. Thanks forum
