i am heading off to college in a week and i am not able to take my 4Runner with me :( so i probably won't be doing anymore mods at least until tax season. so, here are some recent mods and how she will stay for a little while. i''ll post some exterior day shots tomorrow.

i decided to see what UV LED's would look like. i don't think they're bright enough.

i'm too old to appreciate the Red dome light, but the cluster is looking good. Rather than go brighter though, you need to work out the light distribution. I know some of the guys on the IS boards had a few threads on how to disperse the light better w/ the LED conversion, you might try searching the my.IS or club lexus boards and see what they have done.

I'd be interested in hearing more about your homemade exhaust setup and how it affected the performance of your 3RZ motor.

Also, are there any particular things I should know about the deckplate mod on this motor? Are there any considerations that are different than on the V6s?

Do you have some kind of problem responding to these queries tgm, or just nothing to say?

My bad

my exhaust setup is pretty much your generic cat back system. i used 2.5 inch pipe and a straight thru muffler and welded it up myself. there isn't really a noticeable difference is power. it might have a little extra at the top end, but that about it. its more of a sound upgrade. as for the deckplate, i have not done it yet so i don't know. i have done the ISR mod and i can notice a difference. the intake sound is a bit louder and it seems like it revs a bit quicker. i am planning on doing the deckplate so i will let you know how it turns out

Thanks TGM. There aren't many of us who own 3RZ 4runners, especially 4WD, so I am very interested in the experiences of others who do. I get most of my info from Tacoma sites, where this engine is much more commonly discussed.

I've heard that a header coupled with some exhaust upgrades really helps the 3RZ engine breath better. That was certainly the case with my 1988 4runner 22RE. I've read good reports on the LCE header, and Thorley makes one that will fit, according to their tech folks. From what I understand, the NWOR 3RZ header- a tri-y design which I like- only fits Tacomas. And I've heard that NWOR customer service leaves something to be desired...

I think this engine is going to be good, and seems to have enough power for me. It seems "torquier" than my 22RE, but so far I'm not too impressed with the throttle response. Perhaps I need to try some things like cleaning the intake and MAF, new plugs, etc first...
