dont downgrade to 5th Gen

I went from a 4th gen limited V8 to a 2011 SR5 and was actually quite happy with the change (save for needing to get bilsteins because of the brake dive). I'm now in a 2012 TE (not for dissatisfaction with the 2011 SR5) and like it much more than the 4th gen. The V8 torque was nice, but I don't tow so it isn't a big loss.

At least we are all in 4Runners I suppose. The Jeep bug almost got me, but I sobered up.

I like the style of the 5th gen a lot more than the 4th personally. And you can get awd on a 5th gen with the limited trim. I haven't driven one but would appreciate some more power and wouldn't mind a rear locker although I could add that cheaper than getting a new truck ;)
 
I don't see how everyone says the 5th gen is more offroad ready? Just because of the TE model? Personally I really like te 5th gen interior and they look pretty decent when lifted. The only thing they lack IMO is a v8, not like I could afford a 5th gen so I can't say I wouldn't have bought one. But I def would have been in the market for a GX460 over a 5th gen.

I wanted a GX470 over my v8 4th gen but couldn't find a nice one in my area that was in my price range.

I am not going to give up. I am just not going to buy.

If I recall correctly when the 2003 SR5 came out, it had the non-painted fenders, and the majority didn't buy them. (...some people liked it. their choice.) My dealer was sending them out to get them painted so they would sell.

Even if I have to wait until Toyota stops playing rear admiral performing a prostrate check, I will have a 4runner in the future. It may be my 2003 and have a LS3 engine in it. It's ok I got time. ...LOL

I owned a 2010 Sequoia for about 8 months. It had the 5.7L V8, and yeah, it was powerful. However, when the dash lit up like an xmas tree at 127 miles on the ODO, and Toyota broke the news to me that i had an engine with a defect (VVTI springs were too tight when installed during manufacturing) and they didnt disclose this, well, i was pissed.
The 5th gens are ugly iMO, plain and simple. I remember when there were "pictures leaked" of the 5th gen during testing (they had the thing wrapped in an odd cloak or something, i knew it was going to be boxy and lame.

Oh, and i sold the Sequoia for nearly what i paid for it, with a 100k extended warrantee on it (free from Toyota). I think he guy sent it over to the Ukraine or something.
 
Sorry guys I need to chime in here as I used to own a 95 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo V8. Loved it but had lots of electrical gremlins.
Now on to the 4Runner. After the Jeep, I bought a 97 SR5. I still have my 97 now with 167,000 trouble free miles and still love the truck.
Reason I bring this up is that I wanted to replace the 97 with a new 4Runner, but the 4th gen just did not do it for me. Not enough/bigger cargo space than my 3rd gen. Finally the 5th gen came out and fit the bill for me in the cargo/space dept for me. I never buy the first year of a new model year so had to hang in there and this past February bought a 2011 4Runner SR5 and think it is the closest T4R to my 3rd gen.
And someone did mention that the 3rd gen was the best one, I have to agree because even though I like my 2011, it is not built as well as my 97 was. Just my opinion/observations.
But as someone else also mentioned we are driving the best SUV made.

The 5th Gen has potential. Some of you are saying at least we all drive the best SUV out there, and bravo for that. We need to accept the fact that Toyota cut some corners on cost in order to bring in the new model. I don't know for sure but I will assume there's going to be a 5th Gen refresh just like the 4th Gen 2006-2009. I will go out on a limb and say the 4th Gen didn't lose much in the Generation refresh, except ground clearance and lockers. It did gain a whole lot more in interior...comfort. Yes Toyota tried to sell us out to the soccer moms. I say GTFO! and buy a highlander! 2005 V8 baby!

Apple drops the S model to their Iphones 6 months before the release of the newer model. The Iphone 4S came out with some computer ***** named Siri, and now we are already patiently(HAH!) waiting on the Iphone 5 this fall. It is the same tactic to sell what's already out there on the market. How many of us here in the forum had a 4runner, 2003/2004 and traded up for a 2006-2009? "Now with LED tails and Projector headlights!" (yes there are other changes to list, you get the point) Why sell you 1 4runner when they can possibly get you to buy 2 if they throw in enough upgrades? I don't think that is the main purpose, but it shouldn't be overlooked. Lucky enough for us these things are dependable and hard to break.

In closing, expect to see a 5th Gen with stock projectors, LED tails, and some new gimmick that will tip the scale on all of us still trying to hold off on buying a 5th Gen. Can we say 5.7L V8?

No v8 and too much plastic are my major quirks with the 5th gens. I am not a fan of the flat front windshield either. I have test driven the vehicle numerous times in addition to having a loaner. Although there were a few things I liked in the 5th gen, I couldn't wait to get back in my truck :D

Now if there was a 5.7L option on the 2013, maybe I will overlook the plastics, build quality, and windshield.
 
We can sure dream, but there is no way the 5.7 is getting put in the 4Runner. There's no need for it, really. The 4Runner is probably too small to tow anything that would require the 5.7 L anyway. Hoping to see the 4.6 L in the 4Runner though, makes no sense to me in the first place why they stopped putting the V8 in, high gas prices or not. I do think the 5th gen looks good from the front, but kinda minivan-like from the rear. I wouldn't mind driving one though.
 
I was stoked and holding out for a 5th Gen, then I saw one, then I sat in one, then I drove one... I went and bought a BMW and kept my V8 4Runner, I have the best of both worlds.

I'm holding on to my truck until it costs too much money to keep on the road, which doesn't look like will happen anytime soon.

Hell, I like the truck more than the BMW :guitar2:
