Don't Get Napa Calipers

Got Napa semi-loaded calipers for my 4th - > 5th Gen break conversion. Went with Napa because they were on sale, so they were priced the same as RockAuto, but the core return would be easier. One of my calipers was completely missing the caliper hardware kit, and the other had the wrong hardware. Wen to Napa to have them fix it, and they told me there was nothing they could do. Ended up paying 10$ for a new caliper hardware kit.

Not the end of the world, but figured I'd let people know since this is a common conversion.

That is a shame. Napa was the go to for quality when I was younger in the 80s and 90s, not so much anymore. Did they not honor the hardware because it was an online purchase? BS in my opinion if so. Corporate should at least give you an in store voucher to recoup some of the cost.

Have not had that experience with NAPA locally and used them several times. So far very happy with their calipers.

That's exactly what they did. I agree on them previously being the go-to for local quality parts. They have saved my butt on more than one occasion when I simply did not have the money for OEM. In this case I went with them simply because I've previously had great experiences with their brake parts.

Normally, I'd say it was just the store as Albuquerque isn't exactly known for great customer service hwell: However, when I went in the first time I actually got someone who tried to make it right and was told no, as opposed to when I did the core return I had a guy who wanted to argue what was published on the Napa site until the manger told him he was an idiot.

Point is, I would not order from Napa online. I'd probably still consider picking up parts from them, but I would do it in store, and verify the parts are there before hand.

Good to hear. I use their Gold oil filters still as well as various parts. My local store has some of the old veterans still left in my area from 30 to 40 years ago. So they're still viable for experience with fitment when replacing major items. I did have some CV axle fitment problems a couple years ago with Napa, but that's always hit and miss these days with reman. I tried Toyota's reman you get thru the dealer, fit great but the boot tore in no time at all and when I pulled it out, it was painfully obvious a thin, cheaply produced piece of rubber. Axle itself is not bad at all, so a reboot might be in it's future.

Since we're here talking about the 5th gen brake conversion, let me take a moment to diss the Centric brand calipers that lasted less than a year in the relatively mild climate of the lower mainland, Canada, on my truck before all the inboard pistons ceased.

They're terrible, don't buy them. Get something better.

I’ve replaced two Napa calipers after 2-3 years of use and they warrantied them no questions asked.
