Don't know what to do now.

So I posted earlier that my valve covers were leaking. Now I tore it apart and found that my bolts were sheared. After 2 hours of knocking them out with a center punch and hammer I got them replaced. Zipped everything up and have everything torqued down to spec. Now I got to start up my engine and the idle is way too high (1200rpms) and my oil light was on. And it started smoking. AGAIN! I took to putting more oil into it because it was low and when I did, it looked like it was leaking from the oil fill hole itself. So I said **** it. Drove it back to my barracks. Upon driving it where there's no speed limit above 25 on base and between my barracks and the auto port, it wouldn't shift out of 2nd gear. And I had the pedal to the metal and it wouldn't have any throttle response. Just got to about 3k rpms. So here's the thing. I'm done with this engine. I'm probably going to take it out in do a 1uz swap. I'm starting my search come a few weeks from now. I've had it. I'm beyond livid.

It sounds like your accelerator cable (gas pedal) and throttle cable (connects to transmission) are out of adjustment, also there might be a vacuum line not connected somewhere, if the idle speed stays at 1200 rpm after the engine reaches operating temperature.

Take a deep breath, (ok, a few), once calmed, begin to research about what the problem could stem from. retrace your tracks and see if you might have made a little mistake here or there. Perhaps left a harness unplugged or something.

Maybe even sleep on it and come back to it later. No sense in letting your emotions get the best of you. I used to get like that a lot. Broke a lot of stuff that I regret.

Just take a second to breathe. It's been a rough day, give yourself a few seconds.

I went by the book with this one. I think it could be the cables, but it has been a stressful day. I'm seriously about to...idk I went into the auto port to put on sway bar brushings. Only to fukk shit up. I need to be 21 so I can drink already.

I know the feeling. It seems like every job I do ends up having an added "Hatfield" step. Something needs to also end up being fixed, bolts need replaced, drilled out, blah blah blah.

I would still go back and check. I've made many mistakes after simply moving to fast and while using a book, i still managed to be a dingus and screw it up . Lol.

Ditto on the beer. I say you can sign up and go put your life on the line, you should be able to drink...

I digress.

Good luck, and thanks for serving and making it so I can continue to screw things up when I wrench.

Well I was going to reply right after I like that, but my phone grew wings, flew across the room and hit the door...stupid ads...any who. I agree if I can go to the Middle East and see what I saw I should be able to drink. Shit.

I almost don't want to drive it though. The transmission was throwing a code for the solenoid and now it's gone and shifts WAY too smooth. It stopped smoking actually and I'm clueless. I must be the dumbest mechanical engineer the Navy has to offer-.-

So I adjusted up the cables, and tried driving it again..shifts into 2nd then the engine just gives up and doesn't go over 2400. If it gave up maybe I should just give up too. I'm lost for words and a know how. All my connections are fine. No vacuum leaks, just a hunting of the engine when I'm going up an incline. Not sure what to do anymore. ****...

Is it strong in idle and in first? Only gutting out in 2nd? You said it was throwing a code for a trans solenoid, did you replace it?

If its has horrible throttle response in idle and 1st, I would think it was the TPS or another sensor or maybe even a bad ground. I would also look for oil on the plugs or plug wires. I had a Galant (I know totally diff thing) with the plugs in the center of the heads and the valve cover leaked at the tube seals, and that would make it miss and be gutless at random (with a constant pool of oil in the plug tubes). Even after I fixed the leak and cleaned EVERYTHING up really nice it still drove the same, wasn't tell after I broke down and replaced the plugs and wires that it was right again. (get oil on plug wires or plugs and they are done, in my experience)

I know whats it like to run into something like this and loose your cool, after you calm down and rethink about what it was doing. You should be able to figure it out or at least give enough detail for someone to pin point it.

It's very strong in first and just dies in second.
