Okay here is what happened, i installed the K&N aircharger today, and i followed the detailed instructions on taking out the stock intake and putting the K&N, when i got done, checked everything, then reconnected battery, started the truck and it started but the engine hesitated, it would stay on for a few seconds then it dies.... sooooooooooooooo i got really scared and i went back to stock, put everything back the way it was, again checked every connection and started the truck, (while putting everything back to stock i did not disconnect the battery) and now it idles around 1500rpm which was way too high, i'm not sure if it's going to make a difference if i disconnect the battery for a few minutes?? i was thinking of going to toyota tomorrow and have it checked i might have messed up something, i'm afraid though because i have no clue what to tell the dealer, it might void my warranty and charge me for the repair that needs to be done (in case i did mess up something).. guys please help me out here i am not sure what to do and it really bothers me...

Thanks in advance
Jay

Try to reset the system again and check your intake hose(s) for any leaks. That is bizarre...

Thanks for the response, i was thinking of doing that tomorrow morning, it's just strange, i had installed intakes on all our previous cars and this is far the most strangest and scariest install that i did..

Keep it coming guys, i would really appreciate any options

Thanks again in advance

No there is no need to dis-connect the battery. I cleaned my MAF sensor this weekend, by spraying it with contact cleaner I clean it every 30 k miles. I have not ever dis-connected the battery for this. The MAF is very fragile. Dropping it would break the hair-thin elements. I would dis-connect it and re-plug it in. It sounds to me like it is not working?

Thanks grease, just have one question, when you say disconnect the MAF sensor did you mean disconnect the plug? or take out the whole thing (removing the sensor from the intake box)? I still wanted to put the K&N but i'm afraid i might encounter the same trouble again...:(

Yea I remove the two Phillips heads screws form The MAF housing and yank it totally out of there. You have to tug on her a bit. An O-ring holds it in place a seals any outside air. Removing it is the only way to get at the three orifices. I disconnect the electrical connector as well.

The K&N has a mounting port for the MAF

Okay i disconnected the battery before i went to work, if nothings changed later, i will try to take out the sensor and reinstall it again.. and yes the K&N has a mounting place for the MAF sensor, do you think i messed up the sensor? The idle last night on my truck was just way too high...

If the MAF sensor is installed backwards(it sits on the tube the other way facing the front) does it make any difference? I read something on tundrasolutions some guy called k&n about it and told him to just install the sensor backwards and the same scenario happened, engine died.

On the original setup, you will know which way to insert the MAF as the electrical connector will simply slip on without forcing/rotating the plug 180 degrees. I can

here are some updates, everything is back to normal, reconnected battery and stock intake is back on the truck, idle is smooth once again.. thanks grease for all the helpful information...

I have no clue as well.. i was thinking that there were some kind of screw that i could just turn for my 06 to adjust the idle but i've read yesterday on one of the threads that the ECU controls and adjusts it... so i was like..Ooookkkaayyy what do i do now..

I got home yesterday, reconnected the battery, started the truck and the freakin' idle was still high.. then i just kept the engine running for about 5-10 min and guess what the idle went back to normal again.. i don't understand technology these days, i guess i'm just old school... :p

Yea idle speed and timing are adjusted by the ecu on most vehicles built from the early 1990s and up.

Sell your timing light at the next yard-sale ;):

I have the K&N kit on my V-6 with no problems. I've had mine almost a year and a half now. Are you sure you got the hose from the intake tube to the Fuel regulator correctly and snuggly on??? Is there a CEL on also??? If so I would lean towards the MAF sensor. Pull the connector off the sensor and make sure none of pins are bent and it is seated on the sensor correctly. Look around the engine and make sure you did not plug another connector loose by chance. Strange things happen sometimes.

Good luck

Thanks for the advise...

I found out that it was really the intake tube (defective) i called K&N and they sent me another one and well what do you know the MAF fits perfect... so i'm now enjoying my new intake:biggrin2:
