Don't leave bird poo on the paint!

I've had bird poo on cars before and never noticed any ill effect. I had some on my salsa red TE and the damn stuff etched the clearcoat! I cleaned the area and lightly rubbed some novus 2 (all I had) on the spot with my finger for a few seconds. The etching is barely visible now and only at an angle in direct light. I never had bird poo etch the paint on a vehicle before, not even my 08 FJ.

So, even if it's a small spot of bird poo, absolutely do not leave it for another day to clean and get it off ASAP!

A microfiber cloth and bottle of water or QD is a necessity. NEVER leave bird crap on paint, no matter what.
 
Bird doo is one of the worst aside from hard water spots. In +100degF it tends to bake on to the car quickly. I like to use a bug & tar remover from Turtle. It cleans and polishes.
 
A good coat of wax goes a long way to protecting the paint. Did you have any wax on the paint? If so, it sound like the paint may be weak. I've had a lot of bird crap on my paint and it never etched.
 
Bird poop can also be abrasive. Just last weekend I used a microfiber cloth and water followed by some quick detail and got a couple of scratches that will need a bit of polishing. If it's dry, soak it really well first.

x2! The windshields on the planes are very delicate when it comes to scratching (and not that different than clearcoat). Dead bugs, the occasional bird poo and 'stuff' is nothing but sandpaper to it. By spraying and being patient your doing yourself a great favor.

If I have some big, dried bug or bird **** I'll spray it with Quick-detail or similar and let it sit. If something is really baked on spraying with Pledge as a pre-soak helps too. Pledge doesn't evaporate off so quickly so you can let it sit for a few minutes to soften the whatever. (I'm talking about just 'getting it off' not doing a full wash.)

I've never had it etch either, until now. I've been wary of it and purposly looked for damage on previous vehicles and never saw any.

Maybe the birds have been eating extra spicy lately? :)
