Not sure if the garage door didn't go up all the way (unlikely) or I was in a big rip this morning and didn't wait for it to go up all the way (likely), but I caught the spoiler thingy on the back of my 4Runner on the bottom edge of the garage door. Put a few nice scrapes on the spoiler and popped a couple of rivets off the bottom edge of the garage door. :dammit:

The spoiler appears to be all plastic and it doesn't appear that the scrapes went too far into the material. Hopefully I can rub out most of the marks with some cleaner wax. The bottom edge of the garage door looks worse than it is. Hopefully 2 rivets and some brute force put things back in line.

Damn... serious bummer.

I've had my share of stupid - though mine typically happen when I'm off-roading and I don't think before I act. Makes for some good stories.
 
I'm garage door deficient as well. I was putting the snow tires on my VW last fall. When I took the summer wheel off the back right side of the car, I leaned it against the garage door (I was changing in the garage). It started to get stuffy toward the end of the job and I hit the button to open the door, forgetting that I had a wheel leaning against the garage door. Bam, the wheel hits the concrete floor. My machined face BBS wheels now has a very torn up clearcoat that I cannot polish out.

The part that makes me really mad is that all 4 wheels were absolutely perfect. Now I have one that looks OK from 5', but the scuffed face really bothers me now and I can't find a replacement for under $170.

Ouch. But look on the bright side....it could have been worse.
$11,000 to fix Turbo, $3,000 for door after a 16 yr old let the clutch out after starting it.

Is that your turbo? My dad had one of these in 2001 he ordered a yellow one with yellow stitching everywhere, yellow seat belts and yellow backs on the seats. Unfortunately I was entirely too young to drive it or even try to start it for that matter. I guess on his side it would be considered "fortunately". I love that car though, sooooo good lookin.
 
Lets see - last winter I pulled out the Armada. Issue the emergency release cord for the garage door got caught in my roof rack and stopped the garage door about a foot down. I open the garage door by the garage entrance door, walk around, get in the car and back out.......... lower panel went -- $350

Good News: Now the emergency released cords on both sides are tied up

Two months ago -- wife backs up on the other side with the 4runner. I hear the garage door start going up then I hear bang. No way there was enough time for the door to go up so I know what happened.

Good news 1) $250 to fix her side (I lowered the cost by being able to get it shut myself) and 2) she is no longer making fun of me for backing into the garage door

OK, now I don't feel so bad.

Looks like the 4Runner is mostly fine. I was able to get the marks out of the spoiler with some cleaner wax. The garage door took the worst of it. It's bent outward on my side, but still closes. A little tweaking and I think it will be fine. The door is one of those thin panel aluminum doors, only slightly thicker than a beer can, so it should bend back fairly easily.

You could always have it repaired.. $170 is cheap for a BBS wheel, unless its a rep..

It isn't a rep. They are OEM VW wheels made by BBS, so that is probably why the cost isn't as outrageous as if I'd ruined an aftermarket BBS wheel.
