My god has this forum become quite the dumpster fire. These new massive video ads at the beginning of each thread are so wrong. T4R went from being a treasure trove of contributors with great information shared to something I don't even recognize. Whoever owns this forum is a moron, because I think they just dealt the final blow to kill this forum for good.

It's all about making a buck, and they're going to squeeze every last penny out of it before it dies, which it will with the amount of ads people have to deal with.

Hey Tim,

I agree, tons of ads on the site. But you can run an adblocker plugin on your browser (I use uBlock) and no more ads! Hope this can help someone
 
Yeah Tim, totally agree. Anyone google searching for information on their 3rd gen will immediately recoil and back away to a different site when they get hit with those ads. I don't know how this site gets new members. If I didn't use an ad blocker I would have abandoned this site years ago.

BUT I don't think that helps the stupid "are you human" BS that
the site constantly does to...what? avoid hackers/spammers?

The glory days are likely over, and I REALLY don't like the FB
way of doing things. Thank god Tim already showed us how to
rebuild the entire freaking vehicle! :)

I mostly view T4R on my Macbook laptop. Can you recommend a good ad blocker to download?
 
uBlock origin works well for me. I'm using a macbook and firefox.
uBlock Origin - Free, open-source ad content blocker.

On my chrome browser I've been using Adblock Plus, for no particular reason.

Sad thing is that most of us are OK with a few mild ads (ie. static, silent, small, around perimeter, etc). These mild ads provide reasonable exposure for the advertiser and revenue for sites.

Oh, but that's not good enough for the advertisers. They want intrusive ads that command your attention (ie. beepy, flashy, loud, motion, large, in-your-face, pop-up, etc). At best these are annoying, and at worst will cause many of us to actively boycott anything associated with that advertiser.

So, users (like me) resort to ad-blockers. Thus depriving exposure for the advertisers, and revenue for the site owners. And, it kills all ads, even for the well behaved advertisers. Just sad the offenders ruin it for everyone.

This site is virtually useless without an adblocker. I also use ublock origin. Too bad the new owners bought this site to get pennies for polluting it with junk ads.
 
You guys must be bothered much more than I am. I don't have any ads that interrupt my reading or navigation of the site. Yes, when I go to a post an ad might pop up, but it doesn't intrude on my reading what is posted. I guess when I want to take a picture of something posted there is that pop up square that I have to x out before I take the picture. I do however, find that question "are you human" to be annoying, especially since I come in on the same computer every day, once should be enough!

The one I use is actually called Adblock. That or any of the other ad blockers mentioned here work good and have extensions for Mac, Windows, Linux,Etc. I'm using Linux Ubuntu and love it. I got feed up with the constant Microsoft Windows updates a while ago and never looked back. I don't like being nagged with lots of ads and unnecessary forced operating system updates.
 
I haven't seen ads on the web in years. Probably more than 10. You can install ad blockers. It's a lot safer if you do since ads can be malicious in addition to making your internet experience worse.

I just installed adblock because I use chrome. What a difference! Thanks for the suggestion.

I use Adblock with Chrome and had to click on it to see how many ads are on this page alone. There are 9 ads that it blocked, holy cow, I had no idea. Glad I donated to Adblock years ago.
 
I run uBlock and AdBlock on my desktop, so I rarely have to see what a huge pile of ads the site is without them.

Unless I try to look up something on my phone when I'm outisdie working on the truck. Then it's enough to make me want to throw my phone across the street. Just a mess of ads you have to attempt to scroll through.

Another enthusiast site I'm no (for midified old Volvos) we've just gone to a voluntary contribution drive every so often to pay the admin's costs for maintaining the site. There are enough people who value the site enough to donate money every year or two to keep it going. And not one single solitary ad.

Unfortunately, a Mod here shared at one point that the new owner of this site is NOT a Toyota enthusiast - just an ad revenue enthusiast, so there will not be anything like that happening here.
