Door Ajar chime wires

Can someone please direct me to where the wire is that makes that god awful door ajar chime go off? My dealer will not turn it off and I have to move some stuff which will require me to have the tailgate open and I will gouge out my own eardrums if I have to listen to that bell for 40 miles. I realize it is a premanent solution but I dont care. Thanks.

What do you have to move that you would have to leave the back lift gate open for? You can't hang it out the back thru the open window?

I know that that door hinges were not meant to be driven when open and you could fack it up or break the window.That big old thing would be like a parachute back there open and that window and the labor to replace it isn't cheap.

I tried to search over in the 4th Gen section to see if anybody has done it with no luck.

Not sure how you would disarm the chime but if its only one time you might consider some headphones or ear plugs and listen to music instead. Party mode ON!

Thanks looking around Harper. I gotta move a couch and I cant close the back all the way. I moved a different couch recently, I know-lot of couch moving, divorces are fun, and was able to lash the back relatively down so it wasnt bouncing around but that damn chime was making me crazy-er. Not to mention the binging when I drive the 50 yards from my mailbox to my place without putting my belt back on. Its like that noise gets louder the more I get annoyed by it.

If you have it lashed down against the couch that's probably fine. I have a friend at work that has a F150 that will let me trade out for my 4runner if I need truck bed to haul something .

There is a switch back there somewhere that sets off the chime but I havn't looked for it. It's in one of the oem manuals online here if you wanted to look it up. Probably completes a ground up to the gauges or "Combination Meter" as Toyota calls it and starts it's binging.If I didn't have kids that forget to wear seat belts, I'd just disable the chime from the gauges all together.

Basically it says that you can close the latch with screwdriver and sound will be gone. Critical part is to open latch back again before you slam the liftgate closed. I haven't tried that , but I keep it in mind in case I have to haul something oversized : )

I am sure there is a fuse that controls that. Try to pull some out, one at a time (the ones that make most sense) while the door(s) is open, don't start the car though. Keep in mind there are some fuses under the hood too. If you do find the one that kills the sound don't be surprised if other features have stopped working as well (that fuse could be in the loop with lights or horn or something else)

Try a different dealer. My was really reluctant to do it, they were worried it was illegal. I just kept asking politily and said that only to worry about it if it was free/wasnt much trouble, while it was in for routine service. They killed it NO PROBLEM.

On my 2014 FJ, the door chime is hardwired, and I recall it is not programmable with Techstream. I just got a new 5th Gen 4Runner and plan on disabling the door chime soon.

I've attached 2 photos of the wire I snipped to disable the door chime in my 2014 FJ. The connector is under the dash by the steering wheel column. I suppose it could be the same for a 4runner. When I figure it out, I will come back and post an update.

Pretty simple request ! Mine did 1st ask . I mean it still chimes on start up but goes off after cpl seconds :bash: little red light flashes but ...:cheers:

I recently got a great 1992 4x4 manual trans. maroon 4runner - every second that the driver door is open, whether the key is in ignition or not, there is a constant harsh horn sound that only stops when driver door is closed. None of my other second gen runners had this. It isn't a beeping it is a constant noise - really annoying and harsh. Maybe I could just disconnect a wire under trim? Hopefully the wire is only for that and no other functions I would lose. Let me know what you think.

Does the door chime use the same chime as the seatbelt chime?

If so, could the chime not be removed from the cluster?

That is how it worked on the 3rg gens.

Can’t you Just close the latch on the hatch when it’s open? Just make sure you pop it open before slamming shut.

Remove the white plastic buzzer cap (see photo #4). Super simple.
