Just came out of the BX on base to find that me parking 6 spots away from anybody was not enough. a kid in a beat up cutlass supreme decided to park next to me and let the wind fling his door open into mine. (insert generous amount of explatives here) luckily i seen it before i left the spot as he had left no note or info but DID try to wipe off the scratches as i could see his handprints in the pollen (stupid NJ pollen) I am so frustrated and am not looking forward to the repair process, my luck it will be a nightmare. people seriously have zero respect for others belongings and it drives me insane. i will try and post pictures later.

just remember, you could build a garage around your vehicle and someone else would find a way to F it up. I was in my car one time and some ********* flung his door open into mine. Luckily it didn't leave a dint. I did however express my dissatisfaction of his lack of respect! Also beware of rouge baskets- they love to fly towards vehicles. As for your dint, if it's not to bad, I'd just ignore it and take it as a battle scar. It seems with the luck of things, if you fix it, something worse will happen!
 
freaking sucks bro. Sorry man. One thing i didn't notice when i bought my car was that there isn't a plastic strip along the side of the truck? Why is that? Does it make the car look cheap? My 02' xterra had a piece of grey plastic running all along the side of the car(the doors) that would stop any other doors hitting it, provided it wasn't too low or had weird angles, etc.

How come the 4runner doesn't have any of that? I kinda liked that strip.

Sorry to hear that. That is always my worst fear in parking lots myself - someone with no respect parking next to me. You also have to watch out for the vehicles with kids in them that fling their doors open as well.

I can tell you that the factory running boards probably wouldn't have saved you, I have them and they don't seem to stick out far enough. Nerf bars however do help, I had them on my old 4Runner and they helped prevent door dents...

You can actually buy those for 4runner, I've seen several members here who have put those on.
 
i dont think sliders would have stopped it due to the door shape, kinda narrows near the top if that makes sense. the bottom of the door would not have hit the slider. and as far as leaving it, hell no! its getting fixed on his dime even if they have to replace the door. its a pretty big crease, about 9 -10 inches. still furious. at least i was able to get a police report with him stating he was neglegant and 100% at fault, plus all of his insurance info.

Man I feel you, I got my first door dent after 3 weeks off owning it! Some idiots just don't have respect for other peoples' properties. Mine was hit so hard that my paint was taken off! I touched it up but you can still see the slight dent if you look close enough.. & I love it when people park right next to you even when you park far away from all other cars.

Esteban - that sucks that it happened, but at least the guy was decent enough to admit fault. That rarely happens.

I'm in the group that parks 6-8 spaces away from everyone else to protect my ride. (especially now that the weather's getting nice - and I need to lose weight, so the extra walk is good)

Every once in a while (like at work today), someone still parks next to me.
 
I feel your pain- years ago I had a panel replaced on the bed of my pickup. NEXT day, I stopped by 7/11 to get a coffee. While standing in line, I watched a guy pull up really close to my truck. When I went out there, small dent in new panel.
I'm sure he enjoyed my full, hot, extra large coffee after I threw it directly onto his drivers seat. I watched it soak in :)Hope he burned his a$$. True story...
 
Same thing happened to me in the parking lot of a costco. Was walking out to my old car where a mom was putting in her baby in the back seat of an expedition. Her door edge was jammed perpendicular into mine with the base coat showing on the entry point. Had to push against my car to release her door. She still had the nerve to tell me that I did that myself to fix my own car on her expense....
I got it fixed thru her insurance eventually, but had to wait over a year for it to get approved by her delinquent insurance company...

Hopefully smooth sailing for you!

I took your explanation to mean that you didn't get a report or anything. If you have his insurance info, then get the $$ from them. Normally for me it's a WTF, where is the ********* who did this, reaction.

That sucks man, I totally feel your pain but at least you got the insurance info etc...

I say get any dents and dings fixed right away. That way everything's 100%, always. The minute you don't a few little things will accumulate and then you won't bother and your ride will look like a beater.... and for $38K I prefer to keep mine in like-new condition lolol


:whipping2The very first night I had mine some a$$clown must've pulled their bicycle next to my truck to check it out and smacked it with a handlebar right where the passenger door meets quarter panel and denting both. I didn't even bat an eyelash- just took it to my body guy and he had a paintless dent removal guy do a perfect job fixing it the very next day. Unless your paint is damaged those guys can work miracles in my experience, including creases! Just the other day someone put another dent in my door which~ will be fixed on Monday, also without a care, because for under $100 I'll be so much happier every time I don't see that dent = )
